Hi. Recently, you may have noticed that no updates have been given on development of Scratched. That’s because I’ve started to think my plans are probably too mature for this website. But that’s also got me thinking about the possibility of a more mature version of Scratch. The concept would be rather simple - the same entry-level programming language with a built-in way to share your creations, but the moderation allows for more mature content. This would also be good for older Scratchers such as myself who still love the site but have grown out of it. Vanilla Scratch already labels itself as being for ages 8-16, but the stuff you can get away with is much more limited. I suppose that age rating is about the complexity of the programming, but the way it’s phrased isn’t specific enough. A bit of digging on Google and the Scratch forums lead to a post from Paddle2See saying that ST would be open to the idea of fans creating their own version of the website that allows for more mature content, so this concept doesn’t seem too far-fetched. But what do you all think? Should some of us work on something like this that might please older Scratchers? Or should we leave things as they are?
