UPDATE 12/14/2025: It has almost been a YEAR since this project was uploaded and the song has been IDENTIFIED as "Lust Not Love" by super obscure band Attractive Colours. (apparently it was solved two months ago but I never caught wind of this news until now.) Questions, Answers, and Updates: Grasserina (me!): "Where did you find this?" Ramone23: "Found it on a tape including some very niche synthpop artists from the mid-80s in April. Has perplexed me since" Ramone23: "I've made a recent discovery that most of the tracks on the tape originate from North West England, mainly from unsigned, independently released (or possibly self-released) synthpop/new wave bands from the area. This could help with the search for the song greatly." Ramone23: "Hello all! I may have a possible lead to this search! There's songs on youtube by a person from the Wirral circa 1984-1987 by a musician called Alan Wainwright uploaded by the producer of a band found on the tape this track came from (the fondly remembered cult synthpop band Attractive Colours), and Alan's voice sounds very similar to our lost singer. The main songs that are by Wainwright that are of note are 'People' and 'Taj Mahal'. The latter, 'Taj Mahal' sounds very close to the song i'm trying to ID, which you can hear here! ( https://voca.ro/18wwfTTZKCrw )" There's a possible lead floating around that it could be the B-side of this. https://www.discogs.com/release/7685727-Static-Dance-Tears-In-My-Eyes Personally, I doubt it though.
