Eyes of the Night Upon the smooth rock I lie, A lone wolf 'neath the moonlit sky, The wind it howls, the trees they weep, Yet in the stars, my gaze does keep. Above, the heavens twist and turn, In distant light, the stars do burn— A glimmer calls, a shimmer bright, And then—her eyes, those pools of light. My mother’s gaze, in stars reborn, A mirror of the night she mourned. I see her soft, her gentle gaze, The one I lost in darker days. The pack had come, their teeth were sharp, Their hearts were cold, devoid of spark. They tore her down beneath the moon, And left her in the forest's gloom. I howled, I cried, but none would hear— The silence spread, the shadows near. The wolves they walked, their cruel parade, While all my heart was torn and frayed. But now, within the heavens high, Her eyes return to watch the sky— Not lost, not gone, but far away, A burning light, a quiet sway. I feel her wisdom in the breeze, Her strength within the swaying trees. The world is fractured, hearts are scarred, Yet through the stars, she guards me hard. But as I stare with bated breath, Her gaze begins to fade—like death. A spark, a flash, then gone from sight, Dissolving deep into the night. I am alone, beneath the dark, Her eyes have vanished like a spark, Yet in my heart, I feel her still, Her love—her fire—burns fierce and shrill. A flame that steadies, a heart made still. I lower my head, my paws they rest, But in the silence, a shadow tests. A ripple stirs the midnight air, A breath, a movement—quiet, rare. I feel it there, a gaze unknown, Another wolf, I’m not alone.
