Hoop Snakes are large predators similar to rattlesnakes. Their large "rattles" are folded back like a harpoon to prevent slipping off of specialized plates on the pallet of the snake's mouth. Venom is pumped through it's spines, allowing it to ram into prey and wait for the inevitable to happen. Hoop Snake venom is nonlethal, but is causes shortness of breath, irregular muscle contractions and temporary blindness in extreme cases. Hoop Snake spines are rarely used defensively, but their spines are hard and can block projectiles effectively, including bullets. Their bite isn't venomous but can break bone with their hard pallet plates.
