How do you decide when something is worth all that pain? Who makes the decision - the people who lose or those who gain? What makes a choice worth choosing What makes a decision worth figuring out Who gets to have the final vote Who gets to say it'll be worth it in the end? Every second you spend breathing Is a second you spending choosing To live on, to go on Every moment is a choice Every breath is a voice But who gets the final say When that voice isn't loud enough? What makes the pain worth experiencing What makes the memories worth reliving What gives voice and character to the emotions that we have What gives life and spirit to the pain that we have Where we lack and where we prosper Where we falter and where we grow Who decides where we turn next Who has that voice, that power? How do you decide if the pain is worth it How do you choose if there's time enough to gun it Who gets to have the final say Who gets to pick, day after day Pain is such a choice And who gets to make it Life is such a choice And who gets to destroy it What makes the pain worth the gain and who will win and who will lose? Either way one side is going to be neglected In this paradox of choose Who gets the final say Who tells us all, every day Who gets to pick, who gets to decide What makes it wrong, what makes it right What's the justification for pain? What's the freedom of speech? When in the end there's a final say And it can't be five, two, four hundred people saying "hey" Must be one Just the one And who gets that honor? What justifies pain, what makes it harder? Who gets to pick Who gets to know If it's right If it's okay If it's worth it Who ever really knows?
I wrote this poem in the middle of the night probably in under thirty seconds and didn't even bother with editing. I'm not totally sure what the inspiration or the motivation was... I was getting ready for bed when the words were suddenly in my head, so I scrambled to write them down as fast as I could. I actually kind of like this one, even if it's pretty random. I'd like to know what you guys think too : ) Background image from Getty Images. I had no idea what the thumbnail should be so I ended up with the most cliched thing I could've picked. Don't worry, I know it's stupid-
