Louse crawlers are a tardigrade species that are actually quite similar to their ancestors, being detritivores. However, they have a special talent; living closer to the day side of Aplogenessi, where it's relatively easy to live compared to the night side, they need to find a way to survive the summer months, when most of the water evaporates. They do this by digging out a hole under the water and allowing it to fill, before going on top of the hole and entering a torpor-like state, in which they can survive with exclusively plankton and oxygen from the hole they dug out during winter for half the year.
