Chapter 1 Jessica Scholar sat in her office, adjusting the nameplate on her desk. Her next suspect was coming in to be interrogated any second now, and she wanted to look her best. She didn't want him thinking she was messy. That might undermine his opinion of her as a person. The person coming to her office was Troy Suitor, a man suspected of murdering Stella Tailor, his sister's fiancé. Jessica was supposed to find out if he actually committed the crime, and if so, what his motive was. The door to her office swung open slowly, and a young man with long platinum blonde hair, green eyes, and light brown skin walked into the room. He stepped forward, pulled out the chair on the opposite side of Jessica's desk, and sat in it. He had a knowing smirk on his face, like he could already tell what Jessica was going to say. She said it anyway. "Hello, Mr. Suitor. You're here for the interrogation, correct?" He nodded, the grin not leaving his face. "...You do know what you're being interrogated for, right?" He sighed, his smile faltering for a second. "Yes." He should know what he's being interrogated for. He'd been through the police when he was found at the scene of the crime and ten other detectives and interrogators, most of which who were mindreaders. He'd better know what he was being interrogated for. Troy chuckled, the laugh seeming unprovoked. Jessica raised an eyebrow. "Yes, I know what I'm here for. I'm just going to tell you now, no matter what you may think, I didn't do it. I promise." With that grin on his face? Jessica wasn't buying it. Troy's expression dropped suddenly, and he looked a bit desperately hopeful. Odd emotion to be feeling before the interrogation even started, but Jessica didn't mind as long as he wasn't grinning. Jessica thought over the questions she had planned to ask. She would ask the boring questions he'd already heard before first, then get into asking things like his relation to the victim and perhaps any reasons he may have had for harming her. Jessica took a deep breath and forced her expression to reflect the calm, collected interrogator she was supposed to be. "I'm going to ask you a few question that you may have already been asked before." Troy nodded, a thoughtful, far-away look in his eyes. "Where were you at 2 pm last Saturday?" "Walking the dog." That was the most stupid lie in the world. It was found, during a deep search of his house, that Troy had never had a dog in his life. "Is that what you told everyone else?" Jessica said, not letting her thoughts break her calm, collected mask. Tory sighed and shook his head. "Alright, fine. I was... That morning. or, afternoon, rather, I had gone to Luna's Coffee to get my significant other his favorite drink." Jessica nodded, waiting for him to continue. "Then I was walking home to take it to him." Jessica stared at him. She blinked purposefully a few times, hoping he would continue speaking. He did not. "And then what?" "And then... Then I went home and gave him the drink." "At what time did you go to Luna's Coffee? What drink did you get?" "Ah, so you want the details. It was about... 1:20 when I went into the coffee shop, and I ordered a cherry blossom iced boba tea. I always make sure the boba is fresh, because I don't want my love to have stale boba. The barista, owner, and... only person working there, Raine, have you met him? He's really nice. A bit sassy, but he always cooks the boba right in front of me so I can make sure it's perfect. After I give him 40 dollars extra for his time and supplies, of course. It takes almost 40 minutes to cook the boba, so that's why I went early. Sort of early. It was almost 2 pm when I left with the boba." He sat there, watching Raine cook the boba? He must've been hungry once he got it. Jessica tried her hardest to not let her curiosity show on her face. She had a job to do, after all. She opened her mouth to ask another question, but Troy spoke first. "I didn't drink it, if you're wondering." Jessica raised an eyebrow. She hadn't said anything that suggested she was curious about him drinking the boba. "...Are you a mindreader?" Jessica asked. There was slight suspicion in her tone. She couldn't help it. Jessica had never liked mindreaders. She worked with them, yes, but she couldn't stand the invasion of privacy that came with the reading of minds. Troy looked offended. "No, of course not. It's just that's what one of the other interrogators asked. And I could just see it on your face, too." Really? He could? She was trying so hard to remain calm and collected. She took another deep breath, masking her face once again. "On your way back home from Luna's Coffee, what happened? Did you happen to pass by Stella, somehow?" He shook his head. "I got the drink, walked home, and gave it to my significant other. Is that so wrong? (continued in notes and credits)
Is getting my boyfriend his favorite drink to show how much I care a crime?" Jessica sighed. He was clearly hiding something. If he really didn't do it, he'd tell her what he was doing at 2pm last Saturday. "No, it's not. But you were seen at the scene of the crime. Your sister said she saw you there." "Oh, she did? She's quite the tattletale, isn't she?" He giggled. Okay, something was clearly wrong with this guy. How was that his reaction to her telling him his sister said he was there? "I'll ask again. What were you doing at 2pm Last Saturday?"
