Chapter 8 ~ Framed It’s pretty weird to see a random person get out of a random door with blood on your forehead. Somehow, Blaize was right next to me, holding a Turkey Leg he must’ve gotten. He was now wearing a track jacket and some large boots. “Eulalia!” He gasped, trying to help me up. “Where were you and where did you come from?” “Door,” I muttered. “Well, of course you came out of a door,” he rolled his eyes. “But how…what..?” I managed to say something. I had a high adrenaline rush when I fought Drakoni, which must’ve wasted all my energy away. “I know where all the souls are.” “Back up,” Blaize crossed his arms. “All?” “Not just the ones you were with,” I continued. “Drakoni knows where all the souls are, and he’s not…he’s not telling me…” “Back up a second time!” He stopped me. “Who is Drakoni? I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Thankfully, I catched my breath. Blood wasn’t on my face anymore, but the thought was still scary, considering that beings in the Afterlife couldn’t die again. “Basically, there’s this human-like monster who can shapeshift named Drakoni. He likes to do all sorts of things like…like destroy the Spirit World.” “Oh!” He put a finger on his face like he was trying to think. “So, he’s basically on genocide!” “Um, yeah, if you say that. Anyways, I met him.” “You met him?” I nodded. “In Melanstread. I opened a door that somehow led to that place. That’s where all sorts of bad things roam. He pretended to help me, so I could help him escape. Unfortunately, I fell for it, and…” “It’s fine if you don’t want to talk about it. What did you say about knowing where all the souls are again?” “Right! So, back on Drakoni, he used all of the souls' energy to destroy the Spirit World, as I recall from history class. And back when I met him, he said he knew where all the lost souls were. I didn’t even know there were a lot of lost souls! Well, until…nevermind.” I lost focus and started to think about the time when I reported 2 lost souls to the Guardians. “Mhm.” Blaize felt concerned. “Well, it’s okay, then. Remember those 2 souls that you were supposed to bring back along with me? I remember them!...and I remember how I died.” I patted his back, trying to show sympathy, even though I couldn’t relate. “I’m sorry, bud.” “I’m alright,” he smiled. “So, you know where all the lost souls are?” “Yep! Well, kind of…no. Drakoni only knows. I…I let him escape. But it’s alright, since we’re going to find him!” I assured him that everything will be alright. “If we know where to look?” Blaize added. “If we know where to look,” I repeated in a less un-reassuringly way. “Since Drakoni is out of Melanstread, he must be somewhere around here, right?” “That’s true. What’s he look like again? A monster?” “A shapeshifting monster,” I corrected. “He can look like everything. Blaize was disappointed. “I think we can just search anywhere,” he suggested as a last resort. Chapter 9 ~ Run Blaize and I searched for hours, exhausting our so-called bodies, if we even had one. It was hard to find a shapeshifter, and it could’ve been anything. Even a whole building! “If you were Drakoni, where would you be?” I asked myself, with a finger on my chin. Drakoni said he was going to get revenge. What would he do first? Maybe destroy some Guardians? Blaize took a break for a second. “Anything he wanted..? I mean, if he wanted to kill them, where would he get weapons?” “Silly,” I ruffled his hair. It seemed more groomed than usual. “Guardians don’t die. Reapers don’t die. We don’t die!” “Then what happens?” Blaize questioned innocently. “You crumble to dust. You’re still conscious, but you’re just…gone,” I blankly stared at the block. “That’s sad.” “I know.” A coffee shop appeared in the corner, which felt nice, especially for Blaize. “Eulalia, coffee shop?” He grinned, pulling me to the area. “Wait, where are the doors?” I ruffled his hair once more, laughing. “There are no doors in the Spirit World!”
(Continued here ) Welcome to Wispy Works! What would you like, younglings?” An old soul weakly smiled at me and Blaize. “Some lemonade and a wispy cookie, please. I’ve heard from my colleagues that they taste really good!” “Err, I would like…maybe…um…what would you recommend?” Blaize sheepishly smiled. “As the girl said, wispy cookies taste delicious.” “Then…I’d get that–ow!” He slammed his arms into the table, accidentally touching the old ladies’ hand. A quick but noticeable bolt was there for less than a millisecond, but I saw it. The lady was absolutely terrified, spilling menus all over the floor, and I felt a tug in my gut, wondering what happened. A small streak, supposedly a burn, appeared on the ladies arm. Worried, I knelt to the floor. “Miss, are you okay?” I whispered while I picked up the menu. “I’m fine,” the old lady mumbled, but obviously she was hurt. On the other hand, Blaize was unsure what to do. Finally, he crept down to help. People around us wondered what was going on. “I’m so sorry!” He yelled, but she flinched, which resulted in Blaize confused–scared–and sad. The next few minutes were awkward. The lady avoided Blaize, but felt so embarrassed at the same time, she gave him a free ice cream token. Everyone was staring at him, and that was wrong…this is the Spirit World. Everyone is supposed to feel safe here. Blaize hasn’t talked to me in awhile. I was worried for him. He looked like he was always a happy guy, but now he was just…different. I decided to watch the TV above me. Welcome to Spirit World News, stationed in Reaper Headquarters! I’m your host today, Marilyn, and we will be talking about the weather today! Cloudy this afternoon. Cloudy tonight. Cloudy tomorrow. Cloudy every single day. Alright, Marilyn, that’s enough weather for now. I’m the real host, Albert E., and welcome to Spirit World News. Turns out, you’ve just tuned in at the right time! Breaking news–Dangerous Reaper tries to steal Guardian’s armor from Reaper Headquarters. There she is, jumping and billowing across the sky, looking for an escape! Maybe she’s working with the dark spirits…who knows? Stay tuned. The screen showed a small but mighty Reaper running in the streets. It appeared to be a female, full of determination. She was carrying a small item. I couldn't describe what it was. What was even weirder is that I knew the girl. It was…me. And everyone stared. Blaize immediately turned to me. “Um…Eulalia. You didn’t happen to see that, did you?” I silently cursed. Standing up from my seat to say something, everyone backed off. “That wasn’t me. Do I look like a thief?” Nothing but whispers and panicked noises escaped everyone’s lips. “She’s innocent,” Blaize pointed out. “I swear on my own soul. I don’t know what the heck that thing stole, but it obviously wasn’t her since that was live, wasn’t it? If she’s here, at the very moment, then she’s not the one being chased by the authorities.” “Just look at her!” a girl shrieked. “She looks the same. She works at the same place. Why can’t it be her?” “Maybe she has a twin, but that doesn’t make sense. Maybe someone is shapeshifting into her to frame her,” He counterclaimed softly. Hopefully not, I thought. “A good guess would be Drakoni. Doesn’t he have powers or something?” At that moment, I stepped in. “Sorry, guys. He’s only a new soul, so he doesn’t know much.” “What are you doing?!” Hissed Blaize. “I’m trying to prove you innocent! The things I said were true, right?” “Yes, but Drakoni hasn’t been seen in forever, so they most likely won’t believe you.” “Then it’s time for part B.” he swiftly grabbed my arm and pushed the people to the exit.
