hey!! here are some tips for auditions (mostly singing) cuz they're scary. there's no 'trick' for them ofc but i hope these help :) BEFORE AUDITIONS drink water!!! tea is good for your voice too, especially with honey. cough drops r good but avoid ones with menthol or citrus ones. avoid dairy. drink water. warm drinks > cold drinks (cold drinks can tighten your vocal chords) get enough rest. drink water. memorize your lyrics and review the show ofc if you can (watch it/listen to it/read the audition scenes if you get them beforehand) warm up before you go. and stretch physically. drink LOTS of water. remember that you're literally being nice by letting people hear you sing. in actuality, they should be paying for this performance, but it's fine. also remember that you're never the only one nervous <3 if you get to pick your song and/or monologue, pick one that fits the genre of the show and one that you can make strong choices with. SINGING for a fuller sound, open your vowels!! like this: "ee" (like in me) = "ih" "eh" (like in guess) = "uh" "aye" (like in right) = "ah" "oo" (like in you) = "uh" don't completely change them to these, just add a little bit of the second sound when you're making the first sound (does that make sense?) drop your jaw when you sing like open your mouth 200% more than you think you need to. singing posture!! stand up straight and tall and keep your shoulders back. make sure you know when you're going to take breaths and that you have enough breath for hard notes. keep your jaw, neck, and shoulders loose and relaxed but your core tight. dynamics make songs more interesting, change your volume throughout the song :) don't sway!! or rock!! or make hand gestures!! don't move!! don't put your hands in your pockets. if you fidget a lot, clasp your hands behind your back. think about what your song is about and bring emotion into your voice. look slightly above your director. you're looking at them, but not just staring into their eyes the whole time. say thank you when you're done (if you have an accompanist, thank them too!!) ACTING speak loud. speak. loud. if you're reading a scene with other people, LISTEN to what they say, even though you know the scene. don't just act, re-act to what they say as they say it. don't have your face in the paper. don't "check in" with the director, stay in the scene. also say thank you when you're done!!
