DETAILS Word count: 1987 Text version: https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/post/8315841/ If you don’t know what SWC is, check out this studio for more information on sign-ups for the next session! https://scratch.mit.edu/studios/33868830 INSTRUCTIONS Click to progress, and you can also use space/arrow keys on the slides (though make sure you don’t press down on the keys). Use the arrow to progress to the flag designer when you’re finished reading through the elements. You can also use the arrow again to view your final flag Click and drag elements to place them on the flag, and click to change their color. Press z or the green arrow to view your final flag design! If you’d like to customize any of the elements, you can edit the “add a color” costume of a sprite. You can also add a custom element to the “custom feature” sprite. There are a few preloaded designs, including a regular pile, a saltire, a quadrisection, and disc. Some ideas of custom elements include a chevron, gusset, base/chief, fess, pale, lozenge, arrowhead, fimbriation, hoist (broken/implied), tribar, orthogonal, diagonal gyronny, pall, rays, circle, crescent, diamond, spiral, star, sun, trapezoid, triangle, or inscription. There are many more types of flags, like medieval ones, and there’s a wide variety of classifications symbols. If you’d like to explore more, I’d recommend reading the book Flying Colors. I also recommend the book Atlas of the Invisible if you’re interested in geography/maps in general. I used a 3:5 ratio for the flags, but there are lots of different shapes/sizes for flags. Others include a 5:8 ratio, or shapes like a square (Switzerland’s) or irregularly shaped flags (Nepal’s). CREDITS this has been one of my dream app ideas for ages <3 Music is Starlight by Muse, Oceans Away by A R I Z O N A, and Riptide by Vance Joy. Special thanks to and my brother for critiquing my app. Thanks to all the members of SWC for creating such a great community :D
