Maddie’s alarm clock blared at 6:30 AM, pulling her from a deep sleep filled with dreams of far-off adventures. She groaned, rubbing her eyes as the familiar sound reverberated through her room, slicing through the morning silence. With a reluctant sigh, she swung her legs over the edge of the bed, her feet meeting the chilly floor. The thought of middle school loomed like a colossal wave as she pushed herself up, already feeling the weight of the day ahead. After a quick shower and a breakfast of toast and jam, she grabbed her backpack, glancing at the clock and reminding herself that she needed to hurry if she wanted to catch the bus. With a flutter of excitement mixed with nerves, Maddie took one last look in the mirror, gathered her things, and headed out the door, ready to face whatever the day had in store. ¨Bye Mom!¨ Maddie called as she ran to the bus. Maddie sat down by herself and pulled out her sketchbook. She began drawing a really realistic serval. Maddie was a good artist. Just then, Emma walked by. ¨Ewww! Hey everyone, its the weird furry girl! I saw her running around on all fours in her yard yesterday,¨ Emma pointed at Maddie. Maddie acted like she didn't hear. ¨What? Are you ignoring me? Furry,¨ Emma laughed. ¨Emma, why do you always stalk and watch Kevin? He´s all you talk about! You even have posters of him in your room,¨ Maddie replied. The bus went silent. Emma looked embarrassed and furious. ¨I DO NOT HAVE THOSE! AND I DON'T STALK HIM!¨ Emma screamed. ¨Maybe you should try closing your curtains Emma,¨ Maddie shrugged and smiled. The entire bus burst out laughing at Emma. She stormed to the back, her face red hot with embarrassment and anger. It was like everyone had forgotten about Maddie´s story. Kids put up posters of Emma stalking Kevin. Kevin heard and burst out laughing. ¨She is so weird,¨ Kevin said to his friends. After school, Maddie´s mom picked her up. They talked and laughed the whole ride home. When Maddie got home, she petted Almond. ¨Good girl,¨ Maddie said, stroking Almond´s fur. Maddie ran outside and played in the snow. It was fun. UNTIL.
