So as we know me and @hallowiener- have our periodic table design contest! press space or click the drawings lol- I claimed uranium and bismuth while we were planning (MWAHAHAHAHA) Aaaand here they arreeee!!! They’re both on unvale TIME FOR EXPLANATIONS I'm a science nerd I'm sorry :pensive: Uranium you've all seen those yellow clear glass bowls or cups right? its likely that's uranium glass. Uranium glass was invented in the 1830's and was popular for its color and the fact it would glow under certain conditions, however as with most radioactive materials, nobody really knew the danger of using uranium for such common things, of course, when radiation was discovered to have destructive properties, Uranium glass production declined, people were learning about the dangers of radiation. people had literal RADIOACTIVE material in their kitchen... sure, it wasn't pure uranium, but it was still dangerous. and when the dangers of radiation became known, safety measures went up, because people were dying from radiation poisoning, and doctors actually knew what was happening to people who had been exposed to radiation. despite its dangers, Uranium was extremely common in homes, nowadays uranium glass is less common, and most companies stopped producing it, since its literally made with one of the most dangerous materials on Earth- Uranium has KILLED people, but hey at least it makes pretty glass right? Bismuth bismuth is a mesmerizing metal, the colors shifting in the light, the beautiful crystals that form, so naturally, it is used for beauty products. things like nail polish, makeup, even paint have bismuth in them. luckily Bismuth is completely non toxic and is a metal that is safe to use. UNLIKE A METAL THAT I ALSO TALKED ABOUT *cough Uranium cough* design explanations Uranium as I mentioned before, uranium glass. glass with Uranium used as a pigment, so Uranium here, is covered in the stuff! all those little trinkets are uranium glass, created by this character, also their arm is made of uranium glass. but also you may notice the torn sleeve, the horn, the eyes, what are those supposed to mean? well as mentioned, Uranium is Radioactive, and causes destruction in your body, remember kids, don't ingest radioactive materials, so their sleeve is ripped to represent what radiation does to you. the horn is a bit of a cliche, as people say radiation causes mutations, and it can to some degree. though its very specific circumstances. and lastly the eyes, you think I was gonna make a character based on a radioactive material without giving em cool eyes? ANYWAY YEAHHH! Bismuth shes a model, and her clothes are simple so her hair stands out, that's literally it lol- lastly bios <3 Uranium Name: Yue "Uranium" Klaproth (their surname comes from the man who discovered Uranium, also they exclusively go by 'Uranium' nobody calls them Yue) Pronouns: ANY Hobbies: Glassblowing and being a jerk >:( Friends: Eben (Radium), other radioactive elements Age: ??? Species: Radioactive entity Bismuth Name: Bismuth Pronouns: She/her Hobbies: Painting, Modeling, Fashion design, acting Friends: TBD (probably the other elements used in beauty products) Age: 29 Species: Bismuth entity family: Astatine- adopted daughter shes a model :) I know a lot about uranium because I had to do research for a project I did in 8th grade so I had to yap about it >:) I also was making periodic table OCS awhile ago so I'll probably finish those <3 I'm writing lore for uranium AHEM Yue Klaproth, born in a rural area, from a young age Yue seemed... different. they seemed to have a distaste for anyone and everyone, choosing instead to spend time alone observing and researching radioactivity, Glassblowing in their family's garage, Yue was infatuated with things other people considered dangerous or weird, even attempting to obtain some Uranium and create Uranium glass all on their own, much to their parent's dismay, Yue's interests didn't align with what their parents wanted, being a bit of a recluse didn't help their case. eventually, Yue ran away, adopting the name Uranium, and eventually becoming a test subject for a project code named "PPTE" becoming imbued with the element they named themselves after. Uranium completely cut themselves off from their old life and started to dedicate their life to Glassblowing and spending all their time creating Uranium glass, until a certain someone started spending all her time inside of Uranium's Glassblowing shop.
