[ACCEPTED] I'm co-leading Bizarro Fiction with Em and Wild! :D ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Text version: https://scratch.mit.edu/discuss/post/8333800/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Six hundred men... Six hundred miles of open sea... But the problem's not the distance It's what lies in between. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hi, it's Wari, and I've returned to SWC this session with a co-leader app! With the complete release of Epic: The Musical in December, I've been obsessed with its music and the story of the Odyssey of Greek mythology. So, after going through a few app ideas, I finally settled on drawing an interactive map of the Odyssey, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. :) So, without further ado, let's sail! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Instructions: NOTE: This app is completely mobile-friendly, although it might be a bit laggy. Click the green flag to start, and the thumbnail will fade away after a few seconds. Buttons: ~ 'Set Sail' to move to the next location ~ 'Land Here' to view the answers at each location ~ 'Previous' to go back to the previous location ~ The audio icon to mute and unmute ~ The lightning bolt icon to turn on "quick mode." This is for if you would like to move through the answers more quickly. Click the button again to return the ship to its normal speed. Slides: Once in the answers, click to move to the next slide. If you reach the end and would like to read the answers again, click "Land Here" again. If you have any other questions about navigating the app, let me know! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Music Notes: All the music is from piano instrumentals I found of songs from Epic: the Musical. There are 14 total songs that play, and each corresponds to a specific location: ~ First half of the map: Warrior of the Mind ~ Troy: Just a Man ~ Lotus Eaters: Open Arms ~ Cyclops: My Goodbye ~ Aeolia: Luck Runs Out ~ Laestrygones: Ruthlessness ~ Aeaea: Done For ~ Second half of the map: The Challenge ~ The Underworld: No Longer You ~ Sirens: Suffering ~ Scylla and Charybdis: Charybdis ~ Thrinacia: Thunder Bringer ~ Ogygia: Love in Paradise ~ Ithaca: Would You Fall in Love With Me Again (my favorite <3) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Historical/Mythological Notes In this app, you'll explore a map of the Mediterranean, with pins on some places that may or may not have been some of the settings of Homer's Odyssey. Many of these locations are highly disputed by scholars, so I did my best to cobble together sources into the map that you see here. Because I could only pick 12 locations, I did leave out Ismarus and Scheria, as well as their accompanying stories from the Odyssey. Ismarus, to the northwest of Troy, was a city sacked by Odysseus's men right after the Trojan War. Scheria was home to the Phaeacians. Odysseus washed up on their island after he left Ogygia, and the Phaeacians gave him a ship for his final return to Ithaca. The summaries on the locations I did include are highly simplified, so if you are interested in the full story, I recommend reading the Odyssey or looking up the events! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Credits: Detailed credits are included in the project. Thank you so much to Alia () and Mouse () for helping me out in the process of creating this! I really appreciate it. <3 Thank you also to the hosts this session, and all the hosts, (co)leaders, campers, and other participants of SWC that have made this journey possible for me and so many others. SWC credits are here: And thanks so much for reading! Here's to an amazing session! :D
