An inverted raven is a genetically modified raven created by an anonymous witch in the 1200 (likely 1270-1290) and each IR has a certain genetic mutation (aka superpower) that allows it to do certain tasks. Plague’s genetic ability is that they have a virus ATTACHED to them. They can sort of control the virus to infect certain animals. This originally helped the witch with rat populations. But when the Europeans arrived in Europe, they hanged the witch and tried to kill most of the IRs, most of which escaped and migrated to Asia. When Plague lost connection with the witch, their ability to control their powers started to diminish. Their powers mostly depended on their emotions at this point, and they could not control what animals (or people) to place the virus upon, so Plague’s “gift” became a curse.
