The sadness may be setting in but don't count out that spark just yet The water may be trickling down but that fire's just begun So find the light so deep inside and bring close the trembling match Prepare for an explosion of insinuating emotion as I ignite myself tonight There is strength in weakness A power so misunderstood Our faults are our batteries the chargers blinking to life Our quirks are our motors spinning like the globe oh so bright Be the flame you admire Come on up and approach that fire Be the spark so deep inside Let the tears fall they are our pride Ignite, ignite, ignite A firework of emotion A glorious evolution Light, up, light up, light up and fly
Yesterday was a huge international STEAM competition for me. I'm the leader of a group of five other people and we've been preparing for that competition for five months, minimum of three hours of work every single day without fail. That competition meant so much to all of us. And although we won several special awards, we didn't even make it into the top five teams, let alone qualify for nationals. Not because we weren't good enough, but because our school has completely dominated and won that competition the past two years in a row. The teams who beat us... They were so much worse, and every one of the judges knew it. But they couldn't let us keep dominating, so they rigged the judging. Kept us down. I was so angry last night that the only thoughts I could think as I cried were the words of this poem. This poem is for anyone who has been kept down and pushed away by the unfairness of life. This poem is for anyone who has faced injustice. Life isn't fair, and we can't expect it to be, so look inside yourself for that light in the dark, for the silver lining. I believe in you, and you should too. I hope you enjoy this poem <3 Background image from iStock.
