Featherfaces (Vellumousmakastilinae sp.) are a subfamily of large, blind reptiles with five pairs of external gills and a pair of similar structures on the edge of the upper and lower jaws. They are marine parasocial pack hunters who mainly prey on large fish (especially sharks) and rarely scavenge. Most live in nests constructed in already hollow spaces, usually underneath large rocks. Featherface nests are large, circular structures, similar in shape to bird nests, typically made of seaweed and other plant material.
