A black cat wandered through the forest. She was more than 6 moons old. Coalpaw should have waited for her mentor Smokestorm but she was taking to long. "Coalpaw!" Smokestorm yowled, "You're only an apprentice! Don't leave the camp without a warrior with you!" "I can look after myself perfectly well thank you very much," Coalpaw hissed crossly. Poppyfrost flick her tail to silence her. "That was an order! Besides there are foxes and badgers out here! They attack an apprentice like you!" Coalpaw's tail curled in frustration, she was ready to be a warrior! She didn't need to have permission to leave camp! "What are we doing today? Hunting for the elders? Collecting moss? Can't those lazy furballs hunt for themselves?" Coalpaw asked impatiently. "Elders have served Thunderclan long and well! You WILL respect them!" Poppyfrost hissed. "And where's Cottonstar to tell me that?" Coalpaw retorted. "Cottonstar can't go chasing after every apprentice telling them what to do! Honestly Coalpaw, how do you ever expect to be a warrior?" Poppyfrost said, exasperated. Coalpaw hissed and allowed her claws to sink into the ground. "If you think so then I'll show you that I'm ready!" She yowled. "I was suppose to take you hunting and now you're just being stubborn!" Smokestorm said, "Come on!" Coalpaw reluctantly followed, her bright eyes narrowed. She hated being bossed around! After what seemed like forever to Coalpaw of patroling to borders, they went back to camp. Smokestorm stalked towards the warrior's den leaving Coalpaw by the fresh-kill pile. Coalpaw took a mouse and headed toward the apprentice den. She spotted another apprentice named Cedarpaw and flopped down next to him. "How was patrol?" Cedarpaw asked. "TERRIBLE." Coalpaw replied biting into the mouse. "There's a gathering tommorow," Cedarpaw said. Coalpaw's eyes light up, "Who's coming?" "Me, you, and Jadepaw." Coalpaw suddenly felt excited, she always loved going to gatherings. After she finished her mouse Coalpaw curled up in the moss nest and looked at the warriors den. One day, she promised, I'll be the best warrior that Thunderclan has ever seen.
