It had been days since Quartz Cookie had left the safety of her home. As promised, it had been a rough journey for the little Cookie, filled with dangerous encounters and moments where she questioned whether or not she could continue. But there she stood, on the snowy terrain of the Cacao Kingdom, exhausted and shivering. Despite her fatigue, her determination hadn't wavered. She had come too far to give up. As she took a moment to catch her breath, her eyes fixated on the snowy mountains ahead, a glimmer of hope flickered. With every place checked, she was getting closer to finding her sister, she just knew it. The chilly winter air nipped at her cheeks, a stark contrast to the warmth of her home. She pulled her thin jacket closer, desperate for some semblance of warmth. The snow crunched beneath her footsteps, the sound of the cold and her own breathing the only sounds in the quiet of the night. She kept walking, her resolve unwavering. Every step was a challenge, her exhausted body protesting with each movement, her legs trembling with fatigue. However, it was the thought of her sister, Chicory Shadow Cookie, that pushed her to keep going. She couldn’t turn back now, not when she had come so far. Suddenly, a loud, terrifying howl cut through the silence of the night, followed by several more that echoed through the air. The sound sent a shiver down Quartz's spine, causing her to stop in her tracks. The howls of cakehounds, a fearsome predator, and something she was quite scared of. Her heart raced, her hands shaking a bit as she looked around frantically, trying to pinpoint the location of the cakehounds. But before she could assess the situation, something crashed into her, tackling her to the ground. The impact knocked the wind out of her and for a painful few moments, all she could feel was the cold, painful ground beneath her. A small groan escaped her as she tried to stand up, but it was then that she realized her mistake. The cakehounds had found her. She could hear their panting, the sounds growing more and more menacing. She managed to sit up a bit, the sight of three large cakehounds looming over her. Their eyes were devoid of any trace of sympathy as they stared down at her, ready to pounce again. Just when fear threatened to consume her, a sudden voice rang out, cutting through the tension in the air. "Back off!" The cakehounds turned to look in the direction of the voice, their ears perked up and their attention diverted. Quartz took the chance to get up, her legs shaking, her breaths coming in ragged gasps. She turned towards the source of the voice, her eyes widening in surprise at the sight before her. There stood another Cookie, taller than her, with chocolatey brown dough, and long brown hair with white streaks. The Cookie glared at the cakehounds, unsheathing her greatsword. The two cakehounds snarled and charged, but the Cookie was ready. The fight was swift. The Cookie moved with a fluid grace, each strike of her sword precise and powerful. She made quick work of the cakehounds, one after the other. The fight was over in a matter of minutes, leaving the cakehounds lying on the snowy ground, defeated. The Cookie turned around, her eyes meeting Quartz's, a mixture of determination and concern in her gaze. "Are you alright?" Quartz was still breathless, her heart still racing from the sudden attack. She pushed herself to her feet, still a bit shaky, her words coming out in a slightly wheezing tone. "I think so," she said. She looked up, meeting the Cookie's eyes with her own, the mix of gratitude and confusion on her face. The Cookie seemed to relax a little, her eyes studying Quartz for a moment before sheathing her sword. "You shouldn't be out here alone, least of all weaponless," she said, her voice a mix of concern and sternness. "Do you have no sense of danger?" "I do," Quartz retorted defensively, a tinge of heat in her cheeks. She knew she was weaponless, it was something she was painfully aware of. The fear and adrenaline from the cakehound attack still coursed through her, her heart rate not fully calming down. "But I don't have time. I need to keep moving." The Cookie's expression softened slightly, a hint of sympathy showing through the sternness in her eyes. "No sense of danger and stubborn, huh?" she said, her voice softer. "Sounds like someone I know. Come on, I'll take you to the Cacao Kingdom, it's safer there, and you’ll be able to replenish your supplies." Quartz hesitated for a moment, the unknown factor of this stranger weighing heavy on her mind. She knew she shouldn't trust strangers, her parents had taught her as much. However, she couldn't deny the wisdom in the stranger's words, and the fear of another cakehound attack was too real. "Alright, I'll go with you," she said, a mix of hesitance and gratitude in her voice.
The Cookie nodded, a small smile appearing on her face. "Good. My name's Choco Chunk Brownie Cookie, by the way, Brownie for short. What's yours?" she asked as she began to walk, gesturing for Quartz to follow. "Quartz, Quartz Vanilla Cookie," she replied as she followed Brownie's lead, walking next to her. She felt a bit safer with Brownie next to her, but the exhaustion and the memory of the cakehound attack still clung to her like a shadow, her fatigue becoming more apparent with each step. "Thanks for saving me back there. I don't know what I would have done," she admitted, her voice soft. Brownie glanced down at her, her expression a mix of sympathy and concern. She could see the exhaustion written across the other Cookie's face and the fear still lingering in her eyes. "You're welcome," she replied. She walked a few moments in silence before speaking again. "You're far from home, aren't you?" Quartz nodded, her gaze fixed on her feet as they walked. "Yeah," she admitted, her voice softer than earlier. "I'm...I'm trying to find someone." She looked at Brownie, a brief moment of vulnerability in her eyes. "I need to find my sister," she explained, her voice barely a whisper, the weight of her goal heavy on her. Brownie's eyes widened slightly at the revelation, her expression softening. She had expected some kind of journey, but hearing about a sibling was surprising. "Your sister?" she asked, her voice soft. "How long have you been looking for her?" "It feels like...forever," Quartz said, a note of vulnerability creeping into her voice. She tried to keep her tone steady, but she couldn't hide the fear and worry that had been consuming her. "I set off a few days ago. I've been walking for so long," she added, her eyes growing glassy with tears. "I...I'm just so tired." Brownie's expression turned sympathetic. She could hear the exhaustion, the fear, and the weight of the journey in Quartz's voice. She couldn't help but feel a little bad for the young Cookie. "Come on," she said, her tone softer now. "The Cacao Kingdom isn't too far from here, we'll rest there." She offered Quartz a gentle smile, her eyes filled with encouragement. Quartz managed a small smile back, gratitude swelling in her chest. She was relieved that she had met Brownie, someone who seemed to understand and wanted to help. "Thanks, again," she whispered in a softer, more vulnerable tone. She wiped away the tears that threatened to fall, a mix of exhaustion and relief in her heart. They continued walking the rest of the way to the Cacao Kingdom, the night air wrapping them in a chilly embrace. The journey had been long, and the weight of the day's events had started to catch up with Quartz. But with Brownie by her side, she found a sense of peace amidst the exhaustion and fear. The Cacao gates loomed ahead, large and welcoming in the dim moonlight. The kingdom itself was peaceful, the tall walls surrounding it like a sturdy shield, and soon enough, they arrived at the gate.
