CHAPTER EIGHT: EXCEPT ANNA We all sat down in geography. I looked at Andromeda, who was staring at Cassi. She was pretty, and clearly had a crush on Cassi and by the way that Cassi had blushed when Andromeda came up behind us I could tell that Cassi felt the same. I jump slightly at the sound of a note landing on my desk. I open it and it's from Ava. “Do you think that we should tell Cassi?” it reads. It has yes and no underneath the main question. I think for a moment, then circle the no option. I pass it back to Ava. Cassi frowns at me and writes quickly on a piece of paper and passes it to me. “What was that about?” is haphazardly scribbled there. I’m not going to tell her anything, so instead I write “What's with you and Andromeda?” on the back. I pass it to Cassi, and upon reading it, she turns bright red and shoves it into her desk drawer. I notice that the girl, Layla, is right in front of us. I watch her for a moment, and she passes a note to Ava. I don’t like her. I decide. I don’t like how she misgendered Ava. I notice that Ava smiles as she reads the note. I proceed to elegantly write a message to Layla. I take a piece of paper and write “Stay away from my sibling” on it, then carefully fold and write “Layla” on the front. I pass it to her, then watch her while she reads it.
