:: Chapter Three, last part!! :: Cyrus glanced over his shoulder. "You saw something," he said slowly, his voice slightly less harsh, "so what did you see?" Iphnie sighed, looking hesitant. "You're going to think I'm mad," she told the merman after a moment. Cyrus shrugged. "I live in the sea. Things happen down there can't be too worse than up here." He paused, as though he wanted to say something else. The merman looked as though he thought better of it and shrugged again. Iphnie blinked, her blue eyes wide. She wallowed, then spoke quickly: "Well, I just saw a ghost behind you—and before you argue with me, it's true, they exist—and she looked like you so I don't know if maybe you and here are related or not, but that doesn't matter—and you reacted when she placed her hand on your shoulder—but no one else does that, so I think I'm going mad or—" Cyrus stepped forward, holding up his hands in a "stop" gesture. Iphnie shut her mouth, sighing. "Wait," the merman said. "Did the ghost say anything?" Iphnie blinked in confusion. She hadn't been paying attention if the ghost's lips had been moving—she had gotten used to seeing ghosts without being able to hear them. "No, I didn't notice," Iphnie replied with a shrug. Cyrus tilted his head to the side, then let out a long sigh of relief. "Thank the Gods above, I thought I was going insane," the merman said with a wry chuckle. Iphnie chuckled nervously. Now with his hostility gone, Cyrus seemed…almost shy and kind. "Why?" Iphnie asked him curiously, stepping a little closer. Cyrus looked around, as though he expected someone to ambush them. Finally, the merman spoke in an almost fearful, but truthful, tone: "If you can only see and not hear the ghosts…that means I'm the only one who can hear them in the world."
