Hi. So out of boredom, I made this analog TV effect in Scratch, made to simulate weak analog signals, with simulated artifacts such as snow and horizontal lines. Today, analog TV has been discontinued in various countries, such as the Netherlands in 2006, Switzerland in 2007, the US in 2009, Spain in 2010, France in 2011, the UK in 2012, Poland in 2013, Mexico in 2015, China in 2021 and Chile in 2024. Only some countries such as most African nations, as well as a few Eastern European countries, and most of Latin America, still have analog, and most countries (including those that already shut down analog terrestrial, such as the US, Poland and Chile) also still have analog cable. The following keys can be pressed to trigger different TV standards: 1. NTSC (National Television System Committee): Used in the entirety of North and Central America, as well as the Caribbean, and also in South America (excluding Argentina, Brazil, French Guyana, Paraguay and Uruguay), and in China (Taiwan only), Japan, Myanmar, the Philippines and South Korea, as well as Palau. It was never adopted in Europe and Africa due to the infamous tinting issue. 2. PAL (Phase Alternating Line): Used in most of Western Europe, as well as most of Eastern Europe in later years, and also in various Asian countries excluding the above, and in Argentina, Brazil (with its own 60hz variant, PAL-M), Paraguay and Uruguay, as well as in all of Oceania excluding Palau, and even Romania since its introduction of color TV. It was also used in most African countries. It fixed NTSC's tinting issue, instead giving a saturation issue. 3. SECAM (Séquentiel Couleur à Memoire): Used in France (both Metropolitan and overseas) and Monaco, as well as in all of Eastern Europe excluding Romania (most of them later switched to PAL; exceptions include Kazakhstan and Russia), as well as former French and Belgian colonies in Africa. It was also used in Cambodia and Laos with their own 60hz variant, SECAM-M, but was later replaced with 50hz PAL. Although it aimed at eliminating NTSC's tinting issue, and also fixed PAL's saturation issue, its strange color space resulted in the so-called "SECAM fire". Space: Changes the pictures How can I use this effect?: The costumes for the "Screen" sprite should also be present in the background. Otherwise, the effect won't work properly. If you want to change costumes, make sure the costumes are either in the same order (if you're using the "next costume" and "next backdrop" blocks), or have the same name (if you're using the "switch costume by ([name of the costume])" block, followed by "switch backdrop by (costume [name])").
