I threw this all together over the course of 5 hours just to see if I could recreate something reminiscent of the classic Sonic the Hedgehog engine on the Genesis, and, given the short time I had plus the rough state it's in, I think I've done pretty well. I tried implementing a momentum-based system for Sonic, despite the enclosed area. It's pretty useless considering that alone, but you can ricochet off the walls and continue gaining momentum. There's no limit to the system, and so I've placed different running animations for Sonic, which are determinate on the speed Sonic is running at. Think that's broken? Try rolling while the Momentum bar is at 300. There are tons of glitches in this game due to the unrefined nature of the platforming and the momentum system, but most glitches are able to be fixed by simply jumping. Let me know what you think of it so far; any and all constructive feedback is welcome!
