IT'S FINALLY HERE! Tyrannosaurus Rex (Late Cretaceous) Tyrannosaurus Rex is the world's most famous dinosaur and has been ever since being the star of the movie Jurassic Park. Its fossils were discovered in the 1920's and it was given the name Tyrannosaurus Rex (Meaning "Tyrant lizard king"). It was one of the non-avian dinosaurs that went extinct in the Palaeogene mass extinction 66 mya. It was the last species in the group Tyrannosauridae. It was the largest of this group weighing about 4 tonnes and reaching around 6.5 metres (about 21 feet) tall. It was found in the United States and was carnivorous. It had a chunky appearance and moved quite slowly for a theropod. It had thick, padded skin on the soles of its feet to muffle its footsteps because it was an ambush predator that surprise-attacked its prey
