Show Name: Winona May Barn Name: Winona Breed: American Quarter Pony Gender: Mare Age: 21 Height: 14hh Backstory: Winona was once a 4H child's barrel pony. She was well known for being reliable and safe, as well as quick enough to do decent in competitions. She carried many children through the beginnings of their horse show careers, but never really had one stable home. Eventually, due to untreated arthritis and sore back issues, she began acting up. She was in pain and uncomfortable, but no one was doing anything about, so it only got worse. She got to the point where she was considered too dangerous for children to ride, and has now ended up here at BMR. At BMR, Serenity and Chey together worked with her to get her back into enjoying work. She was put on arthritis meds and refitted with corrective tack. Personality: As the only (that I know of) Quarter Pony in the horse community, Winona is something special - and she knows it! She's a sweet mare with a big personality - she loves to show off and always has a bit of a prance in her step! Despite her "need for speed" she is incredibly gentle and reliable, pretty much as much as she was before she ran into issues. STATUS: Needs arthritis meds once daily, in her grain. Stick to walk/trot rides with minimal trotting - too much bouncing causes her back pain. Corrective tack (like a gel saddle pad) helps too. She can do occasional loping - she loves to do it but too long and she will start to get uncomfortable. Safe for beginner riders. Lighter (in weight) riders preferred.
