Penn squawked, “Je suis tout sauf un dieu de la lumière, je suis- je- euh- je ne sais pas!” (I am anything BUT a god of light, I'm- I- uh- I don't know!) Ace just tilted his head and whispered to Apollo. “What did he say?” Apollo muttered something and Ace just gave a rather concerned face. “Penn, it’s fine.” “WAIT- WAIT- SO THE THING THAT- GRIM ISN’T REAL?” Orchid exclaimed, “And the thing that took Bolt was…” “That was me! I thought I did well for my first time!” Ace cheered; their voice lased with a sort of wholesome light. “Of course you did, darling!” Apollo recalled, pulling Ace closer, “You did stellar.” “Apollo, please!” Ace pleaded, gently pushing Apollo away as they made a surrendering motion. “My head hurts.” Penn muttered, trying to get everything together in this head. What he’s getting from this is that- nothing. All thoughts are point blank. “What I’m getting, correct me if I’m wrong, but I’ve been lied to for over 90 years now, and I’m JUST FINDING OUT ABOUT THIS?” “And you’re a light god.” Quinn added, as if in a matter-of-fact tone, but it was EXTREMELY difficult to tell. Probably sarcastic or something. She did look dead inside though- relatable- whoops. “WOW, THANKS, MISS GEAR LADY!” He shouted, so infuriating, why didn’t they tell him sooner? Or at least not send the very thing that got Bolt! Like- what the hell? What kind of person does that??? This ‘Quinn’ character is starting to annoy him, even if he is a lot like her. She’s just- cranked to 1000, isn’t she? Why is he even judging? It’s her job to judge, is it his? No! “Riiight…” Quinn sighed, putting her head in her hands. Vanity put an arm around her and just started muttering things, probably asking if she was okay, because Quinn just replied with a steady, “Yes, Vanity, I’m fine. Don’t worry about me.” “Just checking.” Vanity leaned into Quinn, who made a couple of slightly uncomfortable grumbles before just accepting her fate. “So… What now?” Bolt asked as he tilted his head, gears could have been heard whirring as he tried to think of a solution. “Like- who’s going to be the new wisdom god? How are we going to make Penn the light god?” “Simple thing, we just- have the power apparently?” Ace tilted his head, questioning his existence for a hot minute. “I know how we assign gods, like how we assigned twins for the fire and luck gods.” “Best choice we’ve made, they already know each other and work well under heavy situations.” Apollo muttered, running their hand through Ace’s hair over and over. “We found their bond to be almost unbroken.” Quinn muttered, fiddling with her fingerless glove. “We shouldn’t focus on that, shouldn’t we? We have Pennsylven.” “HA! I remember you choosing Penn to be the next wisd-isdom god!” Bolt laughed, their visor glitching occasionally. He REALLY needs to get that fixed; he hardly did that. He had always had a sort of smaller frame, which Penn never understood, but he’s learning as much as he can about the LGBTQIA+ community, he accepts any! A real ally! At least he tries to be. “So- like- can we get back? As in- leave?” Penn suggested, raising an eyebrow, gesturing toward Orchid who was just speechless. “Oh yea- cya!” Vanity squealed as she snapped, the same goop started dragging the 2 up and away. “Now, the next wisdom god…” Quinn muttered, looking up from her desk and gesturing a hand to move across the known world. “Oh! I know!” Bolt sprung up. “I’ve been seeing this one girl for a long while! I think they’re a good fit!!”
“你最好带那些水果来!”(You better be bringing those fruits!) Her mother exclaimed, tossing an apple to her daughter. “Yes, Mami! I got the fruits! Just give me a couple minutes! Cya!” Festival of the gods!!! It was always her favorite time of the year in her hometown. The way people always dressed up with masks, and cosplayers dotted the area, it was a huge event. She could never cosplay; she probably just wasn’t pretty enough. Her long, black hair flowed in the wind as she navigated her way through the market, tossing an apple to a random cosplay she liked. It was a cosplay of Chizuru Minamoto from Kanokon, she liked that anime, it was a good watch. Everyone was designated a certain god for each district, then, representatives, chosen for each god would play in games to represent them! People from all over the world came to try to win these games, some included chess, which was wisdom, a race, which was thunder, CPR practice, which was healthcare, long jump, which represented wind. Her district was representing Akali, god of wind, she was always an agile person, so she was chosen to represent her district in the race and long jump, which should be simple enough! With her smile wide, and her confidence at an all-time high, she raced into the city square. Oversized black jeans adorned with a butterfly embroidery, an orange cropped top with a couple friendship bracelets she had accumulated at the festival, mostly representing Akali, but she had a couple of Penn to even Trin! Crazy! Each god had their own little symbol that the representatives usually wear to define their district, Penn had a chess piece, Orchid had a tulip, Cupid had a heart with an arrow, Jackie had a music note while Atlas had a destination marker, Angler had any fish you could think of, and Rika had any weapon! Akali, was obviously a monarch butterfly, Hocus was a top hat or magic wand, Blaze was the dragon and Trin was a clover, leaving Rae with a plus sign and Jessi with the lightning bolt or a gear! You could tell how ecstatic she got when it came to the festival. It was an entire month where the city was at its peak. Other nerds, or just people interested in relatively any piece of media always came to enjoy the food, the various games, and enjoy the huge competition. Her friend waved her over, her voice seemed to peek up from the crowd, “Hey! Grey! Over here!” Grey perked up and ran straight to her, almost dropping a couple of the fruits she was given. “Hi, Paige!” “Excited for the competition?” Paige tilted her head, nudging her friend. She had dyed her hair white and was wearing an oversized sweater adorned with a chess piece. She was the top of their class and was always one step ahead of people. Sure, she didn’t participate in any of the sports like Grey did, but she made up for it in smarts. “Psh, am I? I bet your nervous though! Chess! In front of everyone! Representing Penn!” Grey exclaimed, Quinn held a hand up, interrupting everything from the court as they turned their glance to her. “Wait, wait, wait, wait, who are you talking about? Paige or Grey?” She exhausted, clearly not knowing of who the hell Bolt was talking about, and not wanting to know either, but it was her job anyways. “Grey, she has street smarts.” Bolt specified, pointing to the girl with black hair, all tied up into a pretty ponytail adorned with a butterfly. “Now, how are we even going to kill her off?” “Simple, leave it to me!” Apollo grinned, winking to Ace before sprinting away. Back to the real topic, Grey was facing a couple other districts in the race. It was a race going from one end of the square to the other, kind of like free running. Multiple others of other races, genders, and even ages lined up on the starting line, she took a deep breath. And she’s off, racing through the streets, navigating through the crowd like it’s a hot knife through butter. She felt the wind run through her hair as she dashed through the square. She decided to take a small shortcut, since the city was supposed to be free of cars that day, there wasn’t much risk. A steadfast pace, waving to anyone she happened to pass by, she looked up. A car? Why was there a car on the street? She quickly stopped, tripping over herself. There was a sign over in the-
