She’s going to rage, right here, right now. Her pupils became slits as she continued to care for Cupid, then the so called “wisdom god” ran in. Another goddess along with Rae came along with him, the 3 kneeled next to Cupid. The goddess and Rae immediately started getting to work, running X-rays and healing spells respectively. “Right,” The one in the witch hat said, it was adorned with a clover, and she had dyed her hair to have pastel green moneymakers. “He has 2 cracked ribs, other than that, there’s gonna be a bruise. Nothing Rae can’t heal.” “Right, thanks, Trin!” Rae chirped, giving her a small peck on the cheek before continuing the healing spell. Trin was left there stammering and failing to string together a sentence. She was bright red. “HA! Someone’s gotta get used to that!” Penn laughed; this man was so dumb. Starving himself, nothing like the god of wisdom he was cracked up to be, no wonder he’s the god of light now. These ladies would have done a better job, at least they didn’t HARM THEMSELVES. She sighed, looking back at Trin, the woman was still in shock, it kinda looked like Christmas. The red face, the green bangs, Merry Christmas, I guess, even if it’s September. She looked up for a split second, eyes? Why are eyes there? She needs to stop hallucinating. She rubbed her temples, looking back down to Cupid. “Grey, how about you meet the other gods, get yourself accustomed to them.” Penn muttered, waving her away, what a way to dismiss someone. Also, what a wonderful first day. Wrong. This first day stunk skunk. She sighed, still upset at the poor choices that made Penn the wisdom god, but it was probably for the better, key word: Probably. Was she going to become insane too? To the point of starving herself or laughing at her own pain? To the point of how everything’s a stupid side plot revolving around a main character? How you, the reader is reading how this is playing out? Wait- She backed up from the main scene and stepped into her room, slamming the door behind her. Deep, heavy breaths came from her. Someone’s watching. Someone’s out there, seeing her suffering. Whoever it may be, she whipped her glance around the room, the walls were closing in, at least that’s what she thought. She thought everything was getting smaller. She crossed her arms and protected her core. She just stared wide-eyed at the floor, the eyes were back, those piercing red eyes. She started blinking multiple times, they were gone. What the hell? Why her? WHY ANYONE? WHY CAN’T THERE JUST BE NO GOD? SIMPLE AS THAT! TO MAKE US SUFFER? “That’s why you’re here… Right?” Grey muttered.
“Me?” Grey’s shadow pointed to itself. Making a confused gesture, trying to look casual but failing miserably. “Damn it, this is why you were never a good magician in life, Hocus. You were the best.” She looked behind her, to notice her own shadow moving without her influence. “Uhh- Hocus? When did you get here?” Genuinely, even if she knew Hocus was the goddess of the shadows, she didn’t suspect her to be this sneaky. “Oh- you weren’t talkin’ to me…” Hocus glanced right at a random wall and winked. “I have a slight idea on what you are talkin’ about though!” “Where the hell did you wink?” Grey looked behind herself and jumped up, quickly unsheathing the kunai. Hocus was right there! Just a second ago, she was a misty silhouette. “OH, MY GODS- Oh- HA! HILARIOUS!” “Thank you, thank you, I’m an entertainer myself!” She took a bow, tipping her top hat to Grey. Something sinister, she couldn’t put her finger on it. Those red eyes, that thick showman’s accent, it’s- something. “Well, how uh…” Grey couldn’t find the words to describe this woman, something about her sent chills down her spine. Those spindly limbs, and that perfect smile. That’s it. The smile. It looked plastic almost. As if stuck, perpetually, those eyes looked like they’ve experienced a world of hurt. An endless hell of abuse and self-hatred. Those eyes gave away that smile’s lie. 10 times out of 10. A false bravado? That hardly makes sense. Why would she put something like that up? She sighed, she seems nice, why not trust her? Doesn’t seem like it would cause much harm. “I’m sure you must be Grey, the new wisdom goddess!” She tilted her head as she leant out a hand for her to shake. Grey shivered at the hand, hesitating to reach out for it. She stood tall and confident, as if she was interviewing someone. Grey sure felt like an interviewee. “Are you gonna take the hand or? If not, that’s okay.” Hocus laughed as she tugged her hand off and gave it to her. Severed. WHAT THE HELL? She jumped out of fear and yelped in surprise, staring wide-eyed at the hand that was crawling up Hocus’ pant leg and back to her sleeve, where she secured it back on. “You’re quite amusing, impressive! A stunning performance if I do say so myself!” “I-I wasn’t acting. I genuinely didn’t think you could do that.” Grey stammered, quickly before giving a small giggle. “Oh- Understood!” She chirped, pulling Grey into a hug, squeezing every essence of her being. She struggled for air as Hocus let go, giving a small salute. “So, uh- how did you know…” Grey started, her voice trailing off as if in thought. Maybe she was genuinely happy, maybe she was just smiling like her face was stuck. Maybe she didn’t have a face. “I view everything! Think about it, wise girl! I witness everything your shadow witnessed! I saw that one time when people made fun of you for listening to that one Bendy and the Ink Machine song! Good taste, by the way!” She grinned; sharp teeth shone in the artificial lighting. “Riiight- we don’t need to bring that up.” Grey sighed, looking to the floor. “Yea- what was that song called?” Hocus laughed, putting her hand in front of her as if it were paper. “Shut up.” Grey sighed, rolling her eyes.
