Therizinosaurus (Late cretaceous) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Therizinosaurus was the largest member of the group Therizinosauridae of the genus Theropoda. It was herbivorous and was found in the Nemegt basin in Mongolia. We only have fossils of its arms and hands and we base our reconstructions on its relatives, such as Nothronychus and Erlikosaurus. Its claws may have been used for defence and for pulling branches down for it to eat. It lived alongside Velociraptor and Oviraptor. Therizinosaurs were related to the Ornithomimids which includes Gallimimus and Deinocheirus. It was basically the dinosaur equivalent of a ground sloth.
