~CHAPTER FIVE~ It burned. Not exactly like when you eat spicy food, but similar. The solution slid down my throat. It hurt so much. Gasping It tried to stand up. Nope, nope, nope, not a good idea. I gripped the side of a table, trying to support myself. I glanced at the beach. It was beautiful, waves splashing into the shimmering sand. I managed to stand, and I took a step without letting go of the table. And then another. And another. I could walk! A laugh escaped my lips, I had feet! Beautiful, functioning feet. The ocean air was salty, I could hear the seagulls and the waves. This was surreal! I stepped off into the sand. It was warm and wrapped around my feet as if welcoming me. Walking is wonderful. It has a certain rhythm, like music. I started humming. A tune that I didn't remember hearing but I know I didn't make up. And then I walked into someone. I guess I was going to humiliate myself today. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry!" I cried. I looked at who I had apologized to. He was brushing off his clothes. He noticed me. " No, no, it's my fault I wasn't looking." He smiled at me. I smiled back. Well, now he was looking. "I haven't seemed to see you around here, and as lovely as this town is it is pretty small." He said. Oh no. Another thing I had looked over. " I- uh- I come from the countryside. I've come to visit my sisters." I stammered. His face showed surprise, and then a look of realization crossed his face. " Okay, that explains it. I'm Arden, what's your name?" Arden held out his hand. I shook it like I had seen Hazel do to a door-to-door salesman. " I'm Orca". " That's a pretty name, Orca. Since you are new, how about I take you on a tour of Batanlia?" Tsunami had told me not to trust people. She often came home from *work* covered in scratches and ranting about how dangerous it was out there. I studied Arden's face. His eyes were warm and kind. He didn't look much older than me, about 15. And if he was dangerous... I was more dangerous. I was a Siren after all. " Why not?" I answered.
