In June of 1999, the former SP spur off the Folsom Branch to Mather Air Force Base, nicknamed by the local railfans the "Airbase Branch" had reached the end of it's service. With only one customer left on the line, that had dwindled the amount of shipments it did by rail, the DCRC, UP and SPTC-JPA (the latter was the one who owned the line) to suspend rail service. Before that could happen, one last boxcar had to be picked up. UP GP15-1 #1592 and DCRC SW1001 #1003 did the honor and slowly rumbled down the old rails. The locomotives picked up the car and headed back up to the Folsom Branch. It stopped just shy of the overpass over US-50 where the crew and a few railfans taped a make shift poster on 1592 that read "Last Train to the Airport, 6/17/99" The train then left to switch out more industries on the Folsom Branch. The trackage laid dormant for years afterwards, with only a small few hundred yard segment serving Pacific Supply. The line was partially converted into a rail trail in 2018, with most of the rails being kept intact. This video shows the locomotives passing Rockingham Drive light and coming back with the boxcar.
