HELLOOOO welcome to Mushroom Mayhem February 2025!! Here's my lil guy for today's mushroom, Cobalt Crust! Go join MMf25 here!! vvvvv https://scratch.mit.edu/studios/36258284 LORE: Okay so this is Cypress. He was born a tree fairy very long ago. Tree fairies and others in the Flora group of fairies (trees, petals, pollen, grass) are considered to be some of the most popular and sought after fairies due to their beauty and rarity (humans keep destroying them with pollution. Yes, other fairy types are affected, but adding up everything, the Flora category of fairy types end up getting hit the hardest) Cypress was one of these rare fairies, living a life of luxury far away in a protected reserve aka a fairy kingdom. He wasn't necessarily royalty, but these Flora fairies are kind of seen as the better fairies out of all of the types. The least favored types of fairies are based around death and decay. Fairies rely on those stereotypes presented by media and little girls' imaginations, so fairies that were born to do the not so fun and whimsical things in life are thrown aside in fairy culture. Among this type of fairy are the Fungus Fairies! They are known for "trying to seem like normal fairies" because they can look quite pretty, but there is HEAVY prejudice between specifically Fungus fairies and other Flora fairies. Cypress was known for being a jerk. He was all high and mighty, very aware of his social status and attractiveness to others. He entered a section of the fairy kingdom where fungus fairies would live. He mistook one of those fairies for being a Flora fairy and sort of fell in love. However, as soon as he realized they were in fact a fungus fairy, he was enraged and insulted them horribly. So, in response the fungus fairy spread spores onto his bark, and now he is slowly rotting away. Stripped from his high status, he is cursed to be seen as a fungus fairy. DESIGN NOTES: - all of the orange that you see on him used to be green, but is now dying and turning orange and brown like in the fall - the blue is the actual fungus. sometimes when it's a really bad day, it will spread more. its more like a chronic condition that will lead to a veeery slow death in the future - he cannot fly anymore because his wings are so rotted and fragile. - his sweater keeps getting ripped, revealing his now blue shirt (it used to be like a cream color) - tree fairies can produce sap, but Cypress can't really do that anymore - sometimes he gets so bad that he needs a cane CONNECTIONS: - Celia helps him dodge people he used to know as friends that now look down at him with disgust. He originally is very cruel to her for calling his friends terrible things before realizing that they were all fake. He doesn't really open up to her a lot, but he knows that she's a person he can trust
