It had been about a week since River had discovered Mia, her new friend. She and Mia hung out every day after school, going to explore the forest near Mia’s house. River lay curled on her bed, texting with her friends. Guys, do you know if we have any homework? Fae texted. River laughed a little, then responded. Fae. It’s the weekend. Of course we don’t! She texted back Never be too sure. Amber put in Hey, guys! What are your plans for this weekend? Mia asked. Sleeping. And eating some pizza, but sleeping. Amber texted. River giggled, then sent another message to them. Hey, does anyone want to come over to my house tomorrow? She asked. Fae was the first to respond. Sure! Amber and Mia both agreed, and River turned her phone off to head to dinner. She couldn’t wait for the next day. *** After dinner, River hurried upstairs to get ready for bed. She brushed her teeth (Although she hated doing it) and grabbed some pajamas. River fell back into her bed with a happy sigh. She plugged her phone in, only to realize that there were several more messages. She began to read through drooping eyes. Amber: River, is it a sleepover? Fae: Ooh, can it be one? Mia: I’ll bring SNACKS Amber: I’ll bring BETTER SNACKS River laughed, then turned her phone off and curled up. But the moment she closed her eyes, she was dropped into a turmoil of memories from her past life.
