[YAP #2 BROTHERS] (so I was gonna do this later but I realized it would be cool to release this on Valentine's day) So I already went over this during the Gyro yap but Steel Ball Run is peak manga. And in the yap I said that two characters shine in particular, Gyro and Valentine. Think of this as part two for the Gyro yap. So, Funny valentine. The second best Jojo villain and one of my personal favorite antagonists in media. he's charismatic, down right evil, and snazzy character. Plus he's the literal president of the united states. his powers are fun and creative, and he's. PART 1: creating. Not much is known about why Hirohiko araki made SBR's main antagonist the president of the United States, but we do know where his name and stand name is from. The name Funny Valentine comes from a Jazz song of the same name written in the 1930's for the stage musical babes. It was later popularized when famous singer Frank Sinatra covered it in 1955. the song has been covered by many musical groups throughout the years. His stand name, DIrty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, (or D4C as fans often call it) is named after the AC/DC album and song of the same name. PART 2: Origins. Funny Valentine and his unnamed father were both enlisted in the military when valentine was 19. His father was captured while transporting the code to various explosives and to hide the codes from his enemies, he scoops out his own eye with a spoon and hides the map in his eye socket. it's not shown what happened between that happening and 30 years later when he's the president but we do know that the other candidates for president were "mysteriously killed" a week before the election. PART 3: Motives. Valentines motives are fairly simple. he just wants power. however, the main thing he wishes to get power from are the parts of the saints corpse. remains of some unknown saint that gave people stands. Valentine knows where the saints corpse parts are. he just needs to get them. so he comes up with a plan to make a Horse Race that stops at all the places where the parts are located, waits for the racers to find them, then kills them off and takes the parts. of course this plan semi backfires when Johnny and Gyro use the parts to get stands and kill Valentine.
PART 4: STAND. Unlike Gyro, Valentine only has one stand, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap. (fun fact, when it was revealed that they were translating SBR to English it was leaked that they changed the name to "Filthy Act Committed At a Reasonable Price"). Valentine gets the stand after a battle during his time in the military. He was exhausted and about to die and collapsed landing atop the Heart of the saints corpse. however he then loses the heart and instead gets both of the legs of the saints corpse, getting his stand back. D4C has one main ability, he can travel between timelines and alternate dimensions, and can bring alternate versions of himself back from other dimensions. however when he gets the heart of the saints corpse back D4C becomes D4C LOVE TRAIN. Before he could only bring two alternate versions of himself back but now there is no limit. LOVE TRAIN also allows him to create a barrier around him only penetrable by someone with 3 corpse parts (Johnny with Tusk Act 4). PART 5: the death of Funny Valentine. Funny valentine is the only Jojo villain except Pucci to almost win in the end. The only reason he was bested in the end is because Johnny has Tusk Act Four (tusk was confirmed as the third strongest stand ever by araki). Johnny uses the golden rotation to break through LOVE TRAIN's barrier. sending Valentine through an endless cycle of being collided with every version of himself from infinite dimensions for all eternity. CONCLUSION: Funny valentine is one of the most creative villains i've seen in fiction, he has done deplorable things several times throughout Steel Ball Run. Enough deplorable things that i'm fine with calling him the GRIFFITH of jojo's bizarre adventure. he even griffiths Lucy in the middle. He is a representation of everything wrong with American greed and a lust for power, something most forms of media don't even try to show in their depictions of America. I mean yeah they all have evil tyrants, but those tyrants aren't often literally the president of the united states. one last thing before we finish, Who styled Man's hair bro, like bro got the uzumaki cut.
