Scratch is internally flawed. Let me explain. I'm not OK. I might quit Scratch. My sanity IRL is hanging by a thread. And Scratch was a place to vent. But it has become a bad place to be. (Ironically, this is a vent, and also a bit of a rant.) Here's the reasons why: #1: The Scratch algorithm I noticed that smaller creators just don't show up anywhere. And when I dug deeper into the actual JS code for the algorithm, I found that the Scratch algorithm has a 96% bias towards large creators. Some projects won't even show up in Search because they are created by smaller accounts. Ideally, Scratch basically picks and chooses people it knows it wants to show, which is about 5-ish% of creators and favors them 96% of the time. That's just straight messed up. #2: The toxic works of the ST I won't be surprised if this gets banned. I won't be surprised if my account gets banned. The ST is internally toxic. Some projects that are DIRECT COPIES of other projects get to stay up, while people that work hard get reported for the following reasons: 1. Their project was too similar to another project. (The ST has banned a project for containing the move [] pixels block, because it was used in a griffpatch project. WHAT?!?! 2. Their project was too creative. WHAT THE ACTUAL HECK. THIS IS A REAL MESSAGE THAT HAS POPPED UP FOR PEOPLE. 3. Their project was unoriginal. (This happens even when someone uses a physics engine that's marked as FREE FOR THE PUBLIC TO USE.) Even when they give credit, smaller creators' projects still get taken down for no reason. On top of that, there have been several cases where bigger creators have copied the works of a smaller creator and the smaller creator's project taken down for copying the bigger creator's direct copy. Like, what? How do you expect the community to like you, Scratch Team, when you're just toxic? #3: Mass reporting Scratch claims to ban people who mass report. Yeah, ummm, do you remember PaddlerGames? He left Scratch because he wasn't doing great things. He was responsible for a front page hack in 2022, and mass reported several accounts. He created alt accounts to view his projects so they would gain popularity. And he eventually just didn't have it in him to do it anymore. He quit Scratch, getting away scott-free. And most people don't know this story. That's because Scratch protected him. As a bigger creator, he brought more visitors to the site, and therefore more people gave Scratch more donations, so they protected him. And small creators who report an actually problematic account ONCE can get banned for "mass reporting". Wow, ST, you've outdone yourself. And not in a good way. Please change your ways.
Custom artwork made on Kleki.com Credit to @gsengoush_onscratch for inspiring me to dig deeper and uncover the truth. I hope someone in the Scratch team sees this and they change their ways, because what they're doing isn't okay. It's biased and flawed, and wrong in so many ways. And change is always possible. So, ST, please change. Ngl they're gonna ignore me 4 sure #speakup #SpeakUp #ScratchTeam #change
