this is like my first project in like ages lol but i really felt like sharing this bc i feel this just does not get talked about - it might be really long but pls read the full thing in order to get the full story CONTEXT: I have been taking vocal lessons for the last few months and have been observing vocals in songs in order to improve my techniques ( i might post a cover soon as proof ig?) THIS IN NO WAY MAKES ME A PROFESSIONAL IT IS JUST MY OPINION, SO NO HATE PLEASE Like I said earlier, I have been going to vocal lessons for a while as I have an interest in music and music production Today during my lesson, my teacher told me that my voice seems to have matured, and this lead to a discussion between us. She told me that typically for girls, their voices mature at around 16, but whilst it is maturing it is fairly safe for them to sing during this time as the change is not drastic. However for boys, because their voices change dramatically, it isnt great for them to sing during puberty as it can risk permanent damage to their vocal chords. Even if they can sing well before puberty, it is still not recommended to do so. Why is this a problem you may ask? Unless you live under a rock, you should be well aware of the issue of minors debuting in kpop and extremely young trainees. This is obviously problematic for a number of reasons but im only going to discuss vocals here. You also are probably aware that kpop is having a serious live vocal problem and I have a theory behind this. As trainees and idols are becoming increasingly younger, they are receiving vocal lessons and debuting during a time when their voices are still maturing. this obviously puts intense strain on their vocal chords (especially male idols) and will most likely damage them. overworking your voice is just as bad as underworking it - its leads to tiredness and strain - sometimes to cope with this strain people revert to incorrect techniques to try and "cope" with this stress, which over time will damage their voices as well - i have experienced this problem first hand, and it is really hard to break out of, but luckily i am able to reverse this but this is not the case for some idols one example of this is sakura - she debuted at 13 and she has been using the wrong techniques ever since. this had led to her vocals declining due to damage. she has shown signs that she is trying to improve, but personally, i believe that damage done to her vocal chords is most likely irreversible idols like ahyeon and momo are definitely going to and maybe already are facing this same problem. the nasality and strain in Momos voice is painful to listen too and is probably painful to sing with as well - her vocals have had a sharp decline after jyp made her change her voice sana is a bit similar but its not as bad as momo however in ahyeons case i think this is a result of another problem - she is being taught the wrong techniques with the huge demand for new groups to debut, i believe some companies are hiring underqualified staff or are taking "shortcuts" when it comes to vocal teaching. I have noticed that many idols have severely undeveloped head voices. they are being taught techniques that seem good for now but over time will weaken the vocal chords. idols are not being given the necessary vocal training as they are being debuted so fast. this is why so many idols, especially rookie groups have poor live vocals and stability. it is only when groups receive intense backlash do these companies wake up and give them proper training, but it is probably too late by then. an example of this is ahyeon Ahyeon is one of those idols i simply cannot stan due to all her fans glazing her 24/7. her vocals are extremely overhyped and you can clearly hear her straining/shouting during highnotes. this is not her fault however, yg is putting immense pressure on her to reach these notes and not teaching her the proper techniques to reach them. in the behind the scenes for "drip", she is just given the note and expected to just figure it out, without any help. she is straining with her throat to reach these notes and this is doing damage to her voice - you can clearly hear the decline in quality from debut to now. i do think there is hope for ahyeon though as she is still a rookie and is quite young. with the proper training and technique she has the potential to become a vocal powerhouse. she does need to improve soon though as time is kinda running out because of these reasons, i expect a sharp decline in vocals in the kpop industry if companies continue to prioritise the present instead of the future and debut groups left right and centre without the proper training, and obviously, debuting minors. this decline wont just be in rookie groups though, i expect a decline in the vocals of popular groups too (except sm, theyre vocals are actually unreal - literally the ONE thing they do right) (+)
ignore the thumbnail - i didnt want the goofy scratch cat as my thumbnail (stan yves tho) song : yves - gone girl continued: - i think jyp groups vocals are decreasing in quality. the technique jyp swears by does not seem to be working as even his vocals seem to be declining too. we are not going to talk about hybe. examples of current idols that are experiencing vocal decline: momo sana possibly tzuyu (?) i need to do more research literally all of lsfm - what happened to yunjin? jimin - ik hes improving but years of singing incorrectly have done too much damage taehyun - he strains his voice a lot, especially for high notes i cant really name any more but if you guys know any please lmk - i might make more projects like this if you guys are interested?
