(Click to see other background) Fauna [2]: [Brachioconus pelagicus] [Alias: Pelagic Brachiocone] [Niche: Zooplankton] [ Evolved From: Coeloderes neriticus ] [Eats: Phytoplankton] [Status: (common)] [When it evolved: 3,1 MY, Early Parphoian.] [Average Lifespan: 9 hours.] [Desc: The pelagic brachiocone is a planktonic creature with 4 tentacles, each having a mouth that leads to its center. The brachiocone has four light sensitive organs, though not advanced enough to function as eyes, when they do detect a significant increase in darkness near their life's end, they will start reproduction, as they need the young to start the life during nighttime so they can avoid as many predators in their most vulnerable age. Their long lifespans are an adaptation, as their large size as adults protect them from many predators, which gives them reason to have a longer life, as well as their inactivity. The brachiocone can no longer retract into its shell, but now stores gasses in it to achieve neutral buoyancy which will eliminate more of their need to spend energy on swimming.
