"Why would a ghost be your friend?" Keya shrieked. "What's wrong with that!?" Hissed the ghost. She was hovering just above the ground, with a white stained gown and hallow eye sockets. Her hair was in knots, going down to her elbows. "Everything!" the mother said, shaking. She grabbed her children's hands and rushed out the door. Right before they got to the car, they were stopped by the ghost. "Nobody steals my friends from me..." she whispered, and teleported the family back into the house. "You'll pay for this, humans!" Right before the evil spirit ate them, her dream ended. I woke up in a cold sweat. Luckily, I was used to having such nightmares. But this one felt strange. I decided to ignore it. I looked at my clock, and saw that it was 8:00 A.M. I had slept in a bit. I untangled my blanket and made my bed, so it looked better. Once I was ready, I made my way down the stairs and into the kitchen. "Morning, honey! Pancakes are getting cold, you slept in!" my mom exclaims once I'm at the table. I just nod in return. I don't feel that hungry, because I never do in the mornings. But it just felt different this time. "So, how'd you sleep?" Olive, my little sister, asks. "Why do you ask questions that make people cringe like that?" I remark. She sticks her tongue out at me. Before we get into a fight, Mom and Dad say they have an announcement to make. "Me and your father have decided to plan a family vacation at the beach. We'll be going in about a week, for summer break. But guess what, we're staying at a beach house! It's right by the ocean, and it has just enough rooms for all of us to stay," Mom explains. This makes me frown. All my other sisters start squealing, except me. "I wanted to go to the pool with my friends this week, though, and afterwards Carmen is going to Texas for break." I whine. "This is a special family thing we've planned, Evelyn. We don't get to do things like this often. If anything, you should be excited about it." my dad says. I just eat the rest of my pancakes and go to my room. Once I'm alone, I text my friends Abby, Carmen, and Holly that I can't make it because a silly family vacation, and luckily they understand. I turn off my phone and stare at the ceiling. How was my dream so alike to reality? It makes the hairs on my arms stand up. Great, I think, what an amazing way to start my summer break.
