Or just click the screen if you’re on mobile While other environmental problems going on in the world are concerning and in need of a solution, one issue that is often overlooked is the well-being of hermit crabs. Hermit crabs, along with other species, are losing access to the very things that allow them to survive. More information on that inside the project. Another thing I wanted to touch base on is the capturing and selling of hermit crabs. While hermit crabs can make good pets, most are not given anything close to the correct conditions. Hermit crabs are captured in large quantities from beaches and sold as souvenirs, not as pets. They are often given food with harmful substances in them instead of the variety of protein, fruits, veggies, etc. that they need. If they are given water, it will be chlorinated, which can be toxic to hermit crabs. They are given little substrates, improper temperature and humidity levels, and shells... oh, the shells. People like to give crabs these painted shells because they think it looks pretty on them. Well, those shells are actually smothered in paint containing toxic ingredients that can kill the crab, or even trap them inside the shell if provided before they've dried properly. When crabs are shipped to smaller stores to be sold, the conditions rarely improve. Oftentimes customers will adopt hermit crabs without any knowledge on how to take care of them. So please, if you ever consider adopting, do your research. I know firsthand that hermit crabs can be picky, and a challenge to keep alive. So make sure you know what you're getting into! Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you help me spread awareness by adding this to studios and remixing, that would be very much appreciated! Let's save the crabs!
