Logan awoke in a cell. A shimmering blue field separated him from the hallway beyond. Out in that hallway, stood a man in a suit. Three scars stretched across his face. I never thought I would see you again, he said. Logan growled. Who are you, he asked. You can call me The Director, he said. I trust that these scars seem familiar to you, as you caused them. I was a guard at the Department K facility. You killed everyone in your path, except for me. In a way, you saved my life, but left me with this scar. After that day, I became obsessed with you. My wife and children left me because of that, and I took control of the Weapon X Project. And now, I have you within my grasp. Now we can get back to where we left off. Where are the others, Logan asked. The world, the man said. It’s an underground environment built to train them and enhance their skills, through continuous survival and combat simulation. It’s kind of like a….hunger games type thing. Now, you will try to escape. But I have assured that you won’t. There has been a chip embedded into your spine. You try to escape, all we have to do is hit a button, and a thousand volts of electricity zip out from that thing. Very painful. Logan pressed his face into the forcefield. When I get out of here, he said, I will finish cutting up your face. The man smiled. I wish you luck with that, he said. Then he walked out of sight. James Proudstar opened his eyes. He was laying on soft grass, among a forest of trees, dirt and ferns. The sky was grey. Wait, not grey, metal. He got to his feet and climbed a nearby tree. What he saw was awe inducing. A high metal dome stretched out, almost 10 miles in all directions. The environment within was that of a forest, but in the distance, James could see buildings poking up from above the treetops. Where the heck am I, he wondered. Someone grabbed his shoulder. He spun, fists raised. Woah there, Marrow said. A little jumpy aren’t you. Sorry, James said. What is this place? It’s called the world, Marrow said. Every few weeks, they throw us in here, have us duke it out against killer robots while trying to survive off wildlife and plants that they put in here. James sighed. Anyway out? Nope, Marrow said. Not until they decide to pull us out. Great, James said. Is Wolverine in here? No, Marrow said. He must be somewhere else in the base. Something dropped from a nearby tree. It was a blacky robot, but it’s hands were literally mini-guns. How original, James said.
