Well, here Cain was, standing next to Maxine, who was dressed up in a pretty silver coloured gown with small white and blue flowers scattered across her dress like snowflakes on a silver mine. like actual silver mine. Or a silver platter filled with tiny colorful berries. That aside here he was dressed up in the worst kind of clothes he could have possibly put on. After all, he didn't eve have a we@p0n yet, after all he wasn't exactly ten was he? And neither did he have shiny silver or gold coloured clothes to adorn himself in. Here he was, with zero protection from everything and everyone. At this time, deep into midnight by fifteen minutes, he stood by Maxine's side, next to Cruz, Jamie (another weak Satan) and a few more older students. The night itself was pitch black, so here they were, the older students in their shiny clothes, and shiny we@p0ns glowing by their waist belts, where that small pocket to store we@p0ns was often placed. And the younger kids, mostly younger and weaker, and all of whom were Satan's descendants, stood by the sides of their pickers. Their own we@p0ns glistening. Not as exciting or special as the Heroic Squad's we@p0ns, but certainly not as bad as any. And it seemed that he was the only one without anything on him. He was still not ten yet, after all. And the night for choosing hadn't come yet. Whispers. Soft whispers. All of it filled the dining room with an eerie undertone to it. Like saying that someone would be chosen today. To hunt. To f1ght. To flee after a fright. To try and hurt one of the monsters that would be roaming the corridors of the house once more. Once one was chosen, he and his haunting was to walk out into the corridors and look for the monster before it found them. And then simply a11ack. Which Cain knew was very difficult. For him at the very least. Tiny candles stood on the dining table. The large one where all the older students sat, and faces nearby were visible, seeming more gaunt and scared out of their wits. Only thirteen heroic squad members, and twenty satanic Descendants. With no Lester in sight, Cain could only wonder what was to come next. And just as he was about to doze off from this strange but familiar ambience, the door opened. Everyone froze, the heroic squads, with their hands on the we all ready to pounce at the supposed monster. But Cain knew that the person who was coming in was not the monster on roam tonight. It was Lester. He always walked in a strange tap dance manner, with his upper feet pressing slightly on the ground before pushing up and once again landing on the ground. "Chillax, fellows. It's just me." Cain could've laughed out loud. Why was Lester dressed like that? A golden cape, hiding underneath a clown dress, with all its vibrant colours. That was a pajama. While everyone here had taken up the effort to dress up, all except Cain, it seems Lester had made no effort at all. In fact he had made efforts to become...well a mediocre clown dressed up in a golden cape and with his long hair held in place with hair gel in god awful curls that stood stiff on top of his head. Heavens, that was such a sight to behold. But neither he nor his fellow squadron members were laughing. They were silent, grim and definitely serious. So Cain held it in, watching as the other children trembled in fear. Seriously? What was there to tremble about? It was just... He blinked. Wait what? He who could barely make out figures, with his blurred vision that made him partial to almost blind...he had just seen Lester. And Maxine. And Cruz. And the others. Impossible, how was this happening- "Eye drops you fool." Maxine whispered as she noticed Cain's eyes widen. Cain looked up at her. "They couldn't be regular eye drops. Leticia tried all kinds on mine." "No you fool, we got this from the fountain of youth. Yeah, we reached the fifth storey once, and collected as much of the water we could. You could thank Lester for that. I can't have a weak AND blind Bait by my side." He stared at her. When did she give it to him? How did she give it to him? Should he feel grateful? Should he feel annoyed at her dismissing behaviour? What should he feel? He couldn't establish the name of his emotions. So he quietly nodded, and his gaze once again returned to land on Lester, who had already begun his speech. A long one rather which we might as well skip. "And so, now we must choose. Tonight, the third storey will lay open. And we do not know which one from the ten of the monsters will show up in the corridors. I can already here its noises in the second storey. So right now, our only choice is to pick. A Satan and a Lilith. My dear friends, please understand. Whichever monster it is today, it is strong. Do not jump into this challenge if you are not ready." "I will."
Continued: Maxine spoke up, with a straight face. Cain looked up at her with a horrified face. Maxine was jumping straight into the challenge. Like some fearless warrior. Or some foolhardy idiot who wanted to act better braver and besuited the task. But he wasn't. He wasn't ready. And clearly from the look on Lester's face, he was not either. For Lester stared at Maxine with a frown, staring at the little boy standing next to the nineteen year old. The little boy he had saved. And yet he only hardened his expression before nodding. "A wise choice, my fellow knight. You and your haunting shall venture out in the corridors and remain there until the monster is k111ed. And do not at any cost betray each other. After all, we must stick together." Something in Lester's voice had a strong undercurrent of words that meant "Betrayal is the only way to win". But Cain pushed that thought aside. For now, all he was to do was to stick himself to Maxine like a little gluttonous paras1te, and watch as the tree did most of the work. Yeah. He wouldn't let himself get into the "goodbye Satan's Descendant" trap, not like his fellow family members. No way. He was going to survive. After all, he wanted to live his final days of his life peacefully, not to give away his last breath to some horrid monster. .⾕⾕ ⾕⾕ ⾕⾕ ⾕⾕ ⾕⾕ ⾕⾕ ⾕⾕ ⾕⾕ ⾕⾕ ⾕⾕.
