Part 3: Technology There is this very interesting "technology" that is being used in the sovereigns. Now I wouldn't say technology, but a system to be exact. This system keeps the bloodlines as pure as possible. To be exact, from the very ancient times, since the men settled in the harappa, the Indus valley civilisation. It was perhaps a way of ensuring that the children born would not have any disablities. And what do I mean by that? I mean genes. Genealogy to be exact. Although this unique technology existed in the real world, as in our world as well, it was rather based on the presence of rishis. Rishis? Sages. Sadhus. Call them whatever you want. To be exact, in our world, there was a system called "Gotra". Now Gotra was well a term that meant lineage. However I would like to establish the fact that this being said, this was the first system that prevented 1nbreed1ng. Most of the times, until Mughals came over and then well the Indian factory went Chaupat. Ahem. I'll stop complaining right now and explain what I meant. This term broadly refers to people who are the descendants of an unbroken male line from a common ancestor or patriline. And let's stop the wiki talk. What it says here is not right. What I say is right, because well I grew up here, what do you expect from me? Ahem. Gotra. Seven Sages. or Saptarishis. The story is all linked my dear friends. Sapta rishis, or seven sages were granted boons. After their great penance and all that. This is mentioned in the Brihadaranayaka Upanishad, which mentions seven sages, Kashyapa, Atri, Vasistha, Vishvamitra, Gautama Maharishi, Jamadagni and Bharadvaja. Now their dicisples were classed under their names. Each of these sages were devoted to a certain kind of goddess. Or god. And their disciples that went under their teachings were a part of their lineage. Now these disciples had children, took disciples of their owns and so on and on we have people who are classified under the gotras of the seven sages. However, there are also other sages which have gotras. The eighth man to have a gotra was Renuka or Jambu Maharishi. Their progeny are gotras. Now marrying within ones own gotra is considered 1nc2st. Yes, 1nc2st. moreover you will be punished if you marry anyone from the same lineage of the gotra or the sage's own family. Or the gotra of your mother or that of paternal grandmother. Yes, punishable indeed. As I was saying, those who follow this three rishi rule are called "Tri-a-vishay". Those who believe that marrying from the gotra of even that of maternal grandma and that of paternal grandfather's mother's gotra is wrong are called the followers of five rishis rule. Or "Pancha- Vishay". Those who believe that marrying from the maternal granfather's mother and the mother of paternal great granfather's gotra is wrong are called followers of seven saints. Or "Santa-vishay". Further quotes: One should not choose (the bride) from the same gotra or born in the line of same sage. (One may choose) from (descendants of) more than seven (generations) on the paternal side and more than five (generations) on the maternal side. — Agni Purana, Chapter 154 Now this very system also follows in this universe of Bharatratne. To be exact there are no saptarishi and the secondary sage Renuka. Their were twenty sages. Each with a different family, be it from Bharat itself or not. These sages came from all around the world and did an agni yagna, or a ritual to pray to their gods and achieved blessings from all gods. The same condition applies here, that the person shall not marry into familial gotras. And so on. Now these gotras also have their own sovereign rulers, or administrators. Those who ensure that the immortal dynasty of the Bharatratne family or "Raj" family does not end. That's the end of this system.
