Adelaine Caddel~ “Oh, you don’t even know.” I smile at Audrey and start to walk away. I turn back and she’s already walking away. “Pretty eyes, by the way. Purple looks good on you.” She turns and smiles. I continue walking until I get to my room. I pack maps, clothes, gallons of water, food, and survival supplies. I look toward the sword my mother gave me when I was little. I still remember the exact moment she gave it to me. “Fight fierce, little tiger. Make us proud,” she said, handing it to me. I have never forgotten it. I pull it in its sheath and sigh. I grab my bags and head outside. This mission could take days or even weeks. I’ve trained just for this moment. I turn the corner and see Oliver, standing there ruffling his dark brown hair. He smiles at me and I roll my eyes, hiding my own. We wait for a few minutes before Audrey comes out. She looks pretty excited to get out of the palace. We walk the edge of the gates to the palace when I spot the king. I run over to him, ready for my goodbyes. He looks me and hugs me tight. I Hug him back, swallowed with emotion. This man that is hugging me was a father after I lost mine. Now, I will leave him and may not come back. He lets go of me and I wipe my eyes from the tears I didn’t know were falling. “I’ll come back. I promise.” He smiles, a happy and sad one. “Make me proud, Adelaine.” I smile and k!ss him lightly on the cheek, like a daughter would to a dad. “I will” I walk away and together we walk out the gates and into new land.
