I sit at the edge, just out of frame. They know my face, but not my name. I smile, I nod, I play along, I echo laughs, I hum their songs. And still, I stand here all alone. I am the last, the just-in-case, The extra seat, the empty space. I fade before the day can end, And no one asks where I have been. I try too hard, I sink too deep, I beg for hands that never reach. I wish I'd stop, I wish I'd go, But what am I without a role?
