Original Project/Coding: @cs511598 Character: Curtis (aye-aye) Audio: "It's Alright" - Mother Mother alright, so i'm just gonna get this out of the way first because i know people are gonna be pointing it out constantly if i don't; i'm aware that there's some irony in the fact that the song's lyrics state "i'm a human" and yet curtis clearly... isn't. in this context, "i'm not a monster, i'm a human" is more metaphorical, along the lines of "i'm not entirely bad, i'm just flawed and i make mistakes". and besides, "i'm only lemur" doesn't have the same ring to it ...on that note, curtis is closer than you may think to being a human in the literal sense. aye-ayes are a species of lemur, which - like humans - are primates (lemurs aren't as closely related to humans as monkeys and apes are, but still) aye-ayes have long been one of my favorite lemur species. they're the largest nocturnal primate, the only primate to have continually-growing front teeth (to the point where they were originally thought to be a species of rodent), and they have really long fingers they use for picking bugs out of trees i've also had curtis for over 5 years, so he's one of my favorite of my characters. he's been through a lot of changes over the years, but what i've always had in mind for him is that he's a dentist. initially i portrayed him as a villain, but gradually drifted away from that portrayal. he's not a bad guy at all, really, just very troubled and trying not to be like the people who hurt him (a mood, really) so this song has long been very fitting for him the other day i started listening to mother mother again for the first time in years and now i remember why i was so obsessed with this band when i was like 14-15 speaking of things i haven't done in a while... this is my first animation meme in quite some time! i don't really know how often i'll be on scratch these days, but i'll probably just post when i feel like it. in other news i'm in college right now and worked on most of this the night before a test instead of studying for it smh (but i passed the test at least) front-facing curtis actually looks more normal than i thought he would
