With very low profit margins it leads to many cars sharing platforms and engines - and that's what Brandt did with Oakën when the Mk3 Pulcan was at the end of its nearly 10-year long lifespan. Brandt did most of the work previously - the platform was a shortened version of the second generation Scoppio's and the engines were mostly the same as the third generation of the same model. These were both well established parts - so naturally, the press enjoyed driving it as they had the other cars. The same could be said for the interior, which was mostly a mix of Mk3 Scoppio and Mk2 Scoppio. The Brandt was the 'city comfort' version of the Brandt/Oakën mashup, with its main selling points focused on the funky yet somewhat elegant design featuring frameless front windows and a glass bootlid. As well as the typical 3dr bodystyle, Brandt ressurected the Compatto name for a 'convertible' with a removable rear roof section. It sold rather poorly to general customers and was seen mostly as a gimmick, but Brandt enthusiasts appreciated it enough for it to stay for the complete 6 year lifespan of the car. All engines were tuned for Euro 6 on launch, and each one was quite peppy for the size and weight of the car - it makes it a good city runaround so combined with the emissions level they're quite a good ULEZ buy nowadays. The 3-cylinder engine can have some head gasket problems, especially the more powerful 99PS unit so the 87PS unit is a safer purchase. Gearbox wise, the car launched with only a 5-speed manual. Though a good, direct change, there was demand for an automatic so for the 2013 model year, the 4-speed automatic from the Mk2 Scoppio was reintroduced. Journalists generally agreed another gear would be nice, but they'll take it over a semi-auto. Brandt aimed to reduce rust issues which plagued many Mk3 cars - and they were mostly successful. Rust is known to appear in some strange places like the bracing of the bonnet and roof, but this isn't super common and the areas where rust usually gets bad are alright for the most part. These little Pulcan's are still everywhere, they're a very popular first car so look out for dodgy modifications and bad window tint - but they're also a popular second car so there's lots of lower mileage examples about. Early models are just getting into the hands of food delivery drivers who want something stylish whilst giving out mobile food poisoning.
