When Two Ends Meet By : Mira~Lee I look at the bathroom stall's door, grey and grainy, and familiar. I look down at my lunch, a sandwich with soggy bologna, week-old lettuce and over-ripe tomatoes, with a small bag of Lay's Original chips, and deathly-wet green beans, so wet and soggy that the beans fall out in a gooey mess. My stomach churns at the sight, but growls, being to hungry to care how it'll taste. I sigh sadly, and try to shift myself on the school's toilet seat, but then I'm soaking wet in toilet water. I try to see through my red glasses, but they're too covered with toilet water to see. I take them off, and dry them on the only dry spot on my shirt, put them on and see my lunch on the ground, also soaked with toilet water. I sigh heavily and pick up the chips, knowing that the bag protected them. "Thanks for the meal." I say and fight back the waterfall that just seems to activate on it's own account. *** Guinevere Samotny. That's my name. The girl that's always alone. That's another name. That creepy girl, that's my other, other name. But that's alright, people usually keep to themselves. Right? I'm okay with being alone, just move along, and I'll be fine. That's how it works. Right? "Guinevere Samotny, I hope I see you doing your work!" Says my teacher, Mrs. Predable, my language arts teacher. She has a pointy nose, long, pointed nails and thin lips, with a face framed by her shoulder-length straight cut, black hair. She seems to be the meanest person ever, until you look into her eyes, which are always kind, no matter how angry she is. I bow my head, to shy to speak in front of the class, turn back to my book, pick up my pencil and read the question to myself only. "You never understand a person until you consider things from his point of view- until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. *** I sit in the bathroom again, with my lunch, once more, sitting on the floor this time. I stare at the lights, they flicker slightly like always, I rub my hand over the tiled floor, and loneliness surrounds me like a lead blanket. I start to feel the waterfall again, and this time I don't try to hold it back. My sobs fil the empty bathroom, echoing. Then the door to the girls bathroom swings open, and I try to stop making sounds, but my nose refuses to do that. I hear the footsteps get closer and closer, makes dainty sounds as they go by. Click-clack-click-clack. They head into the stall door next to me, and I tighten my lips around my teeth, trying not to make a sound to annoy the girl. Then she surprises me when I see the tray, one of the school's set down and she starts talking to me happily. "Hello! I saw you leave the cafeteria pretty quickly with your food, and you looked sad, so I followed you." I hear the sound of a chip-bag opening. Then she speaks with her mouth full of chips. "It'z cheally weird, that chu-" I hear a swallow, then she starts again, "It's really weird that you don't have anyone to sit with. I'm new here, my name's Antonia Loperdoodle, nice to meet you-" She waits for my response. "Guinevere Samotny." I guess I must've said it too quietly, because she makes a "Huh?" sound, so I repeat it louder. She claps her hands together, then says from the words I've been waiting for my whole life. "Want to be friends?" I couldn't say yes fast enough. *** "So, what's your favourite colour?" Antonia asks me, and I shrug slightly. I was still to shy to say anything. She frowns slightly, but her eyes still stay happy. "Well mines white, because it reminds me of the snow in winter." Then she snaps her fingers together, reminding herself of something. Then she turns to me with a huge smile. "What happens after the snow melts?" She asks, I look at her, to see if she joking. "Water." I say simply and she shakes her head makes a 'Chi-chi-chi' sound, and waggles her index finger in front of my face, signaling I was wrong. "It becomes Spring." She says and she smiles broadly with her bight white teeth, that seems it should be in a toothpaste commercial. She looked like a movie star. with long flowing golden blond hair, tan skin and chocolate brown eyes. I was over here with stringy brown hair tied in two braids, with bangs that went over my forehead. Dead leaf green eyes and pale-milk skin. I nod and return the smile with a small one of my own. I decide to answer her question right there. "My favourite colour is green, because it reminds me of Spring." I say and she gives me another movie-star smile. Ten Years Later... "The snow's falling really hard today." I say and Antonia nods, mixing a bowl of gingerbread cookies. We were making cookies for Christmas that was
