Moons had passed of no sightings of Smokewing and the clans hoped that this meant she had forgotten her last words to them, “I will come back and this time someone will die.” Although she was coming for them monitoring their habits for example every full moon the clans gathered at the island. “Hey, Enzo you got any updates?” Smokewing asked Enzo shook his head saying as if to say no strange habits recently until it seemed he had realized something, “Dovesong, she’s been coming closer to the gorge daily she still would need a few moons before reaching us,” Enzo explained. “Where is she in her path now?” Smokewing asked. “Near the thunderpath tunnel,” Enzo replied. The next day as Dovesong ventured onward to find Skyclan she was met with a familiar face. “Well, well, well,” Smokewing said, “Are you trying to hunt me down and kill me?” “No, I’m not I wanted to know how ‘Enzo’ got over here,” Dovesong replied. “He uhm… walks over here on his feet,” Smokewing replied. “You know that’s not what I meant Smoke, I meant where he lives, he has a kittypet name,” Dovesong replied harshly. “Well in fact he is a clan cat,” Smokewing responded sounding hurt by her old friend’s assumption. “I didn’t realize you took on a kittypet and turned him into a warrior, I didn’t realize you and your clan were that desperate,” Dovesong replied. “We train anyone willing to work hard enough to prove themselves,” Smokewing argued. Eventually Smokewing ventured off away from her old friend toward the clans ready to kill anyone in her way. By sunrise, the next day she’d reached Thunderclan territory and injured 2 clan cats who didn’t know who she was. She walked into the camp and immediately searched for the elders ignoring young cat’s comments and finding her way around as if she had lived there her entire life. Talking with Stoneclaw and Strikebreeze as if she had been gone for a few days, “Who is the leader and where can I find them?” She quickly asked. “Featherstar, on the training grounds now,” Strikebreeze called. “Thanks, Strikebreeze” Smokewing quickly responded as she ran off. “Remember me?” Smokewing called to Featherstar as she ran to the training grounds. “Oh no, not you, we thought you had forgotten your last words,” Featherstar replied. “Oh, I never forget when I say something and you decided to send your medicine cat to hunt me down and kill me didn’t you, Featherfoot,” Smokewing retorted. Smokewing then began to wander around the camp as if to say I might want to live here. Later as she was heading back to her territory a small dusk patrol attacked. “I’m leaving now, leave me alone as I don’t plan to come back,” Smokewing firmly stated as she walked off.
“Smokewing! Can we go train now?” an ecstatic Owlpaw asked. “Alright just go on and get Lilacflower, Flickfire, Stormpaw, Willowheart, Duckpaw, and Windpaw,” Smokewing replied. Owlpaw ran off to get the cats Smokewing had asked for, so that they could go hunting and the apprentices could learn from the best hunters in the clan. Dovesong sat in the medicine den beside Hazelwing, “You’re such a good cat Dovesong…” Hazelwing croaked with a smile on her old saggy face as the looked outside the entrance at the sunset. “Thank you, but it was only because I had a mentor as good as you.” Dovesong smiled as she looked down at her mentor who was lying down on the stone floor. Hazelwing set her head down and closed her eyes. “Hazelwing?” Dovesong asked, looking to seek a question from her mentor. Hazelwing didn’t respond. “Hazel?!” Dovesong said, her voice scratchy as she shook her mentor with wide blue eyes of fear. “HAZELWING!! THIS ISN’T A JOKE! STOP PLAYING AROUND!” Dovesong yowled, shaking Hazelwing, Dovesong checked her pulse, there was nothing. “No…” Dovesong cried, lying down next to her fallen mentor, and sobbing into her matted brown fur. “NO!” Dovesong sobbed. Featherstar rushed in to see his daughter and why she was yowling as soon as he saw Hazelwing he understood what had happened. “It’s ok honey… She’s with Starclan now. She’s in a better place.” Featherstar said, holding back his own tears as he shared tongues with Hazelwing. “I want to choose where we bury her.” Dovesong grumbled, looking up with a wet face. Featherstar nodded, picking up Hazelwing by her scruff and dragging the limp body to the center of the clearing. Immediately there were teary faces, sobbing, and whispering as the clan gathered around Hazelwing to share tongues with her one last time, whispering thanks, and wishes of good will to her as she made journey to Starclan. From then on, each time Dovesong visited the newfound moonpool she saw Hazelwing who guided her on her journey as a medicine cat and every halfmoon. Smokewing found her further along her path to the gorge. Until one morning, “Intruders! Stormpaw wake the rest of the apprentices and warriors and alert Treestar NOW,” Flickfire told his apprentice who quickly ran off afterward.
