He said, looking down at her “I was the Thunderclan medicine apprentice, but I left.” Whiskey nodded, the other loners came to sit beside her, Skink sitting on the left of Whiskey, while Whiskey sat on the left of Ravenpaw, wrapping his tail around her as she felt a weird feeling, one of love. Silky sat on the right of Ravenpaw, while Rascal sat on the right of her. “I have no ill intent for your friend or you,” Ravenfoot calmly explained to the loners, “I want to make sure that you are safe,” he finished. Dovesong gracefully leapt over the gorge, sniffing around her to continue following the not quite fresh, and not quiet stale scent of Ravenpaw. She silently following the scents, then scrunching up her nose and bending down a bit shaking her head as she took in the overwhelming scent of loners. “Gah!” she hissed, moving her head back up as she cantered off, soon making it to the Skyclan camp. “Ravenpaw!” she cried, bounding over to her. “What have they done?” Dovesong asked, looking up and over at Smokewing. “Nothing!” Dovesong glared at Smokewing, then grabbing Ravenpaw by the scruff and galloping away. “Let go!” Ravenpaw yelped as Dovesong leaped across the gorge, once again, less graceful as she was worrying more about speed and making sure Ravenpaw wasn’t going to fall into the gushing and swallowing river. “DOVESONG, I SAID LET ME GO!” she cried, trying to look back to see if her friends were coming, then down at the gorge, not knowing that would be the last thing she said. “No!” Dovesong said, muffled by the scruff of Ravenpaw. “I told you there was a problem!!” Smokewing yowled at the sight of Dovesong, “I could tell that she was going to show up eventually sending her little apprentice and her friends to find me.” That night once every cat was in their den Smokewing slipped out of the warriors den her pelt blending into the midnight sky. Silently she padded into the apprentices den searching for Ravenpaw not by sight but instead by smell the scent of Dovesong, herbs and Thunderclan. She was quickly able to make out the scent as it stood out from the scents of treetops, mice, and grass. As quickly as she came in, she leapt out of the den and padded to the rocky cliffside holding Ravenpaw in her jaws. Feeling a twinge of guilt for what she was doing to the apprentice she looked over the edge to the river that ran through the bottom of the gorge as she released Ravenpaw. Watching the apprentice hit the ground below she didn’t notice Ravenpaw’s friends creep out of the den or Dovesong leap out to attack. She quickly spun around to face Dovesong in what they wanted to be their last fight against each other. Dovesong growled, facing Smokewing with tears in her eyes, “I will make this your last fight!” she yowled, glaring at Smokewing. Smokewing demoniacally laughed, “I will kill you the same way I killed your apprentice! You’re a medicine cat anyways, you can’t do much.” Smokewing said with a smirk. Dovesong leapt at her, pinning Smokewing with a mixed expression. Smokewing growled, quickly kicking Dovesong off her, grabbing her by her scruff before she had time to recover.
“Now, let me kill you too,” Smokewing growled while Dovesong kicked and hissed, “You can’t do this Smoke!” Dovesong yowled with horror in her eyes. “Goodbye Dove.” Smokewing mewed bluntly, dropping Dovesong into the gorge. Dovesong fell, tears streaming from her eyes as she hit the water. Smokewing turned and paced backwards, then with a pang of regret she turned and sprinted, jumping into the gorge. Smokewing, surviving the fall, Dovesong under the rushing waters, then seeing the grey pelt of Dovesong. Smokewing continued to go under, grasping Dovesong and pulling her up. “No…” Smokewing grumbled, looking at the waterfall. Smokewing slightly screamed, grasping Dovesong’s pelt in her jaws as she fell down the waterfall. Smokewing opened her eyes and looked up, seeing the bridge, “Riverclan!” she said with relief, “Dove?” Smokewing said cautiously, looking around since Dovesong’s scruff had fallen out of her mouth. Smokewing quickly began to swing her head around, frantically searching for Dovesong. “There you are!” Smokewing said as she saw Dovesong on the shores of where Riverclan lived. Smokewing swam across the river, too the shores where Dovesong’s light gray pelt lied. “Dove?” Smokewing asked, looking down at her with sorrowful eyes. “What have I done?!” Smokewing cried, lifting up her head and closing her eyes. Dovesong began to cough, “Smoke?” Dovesong asked, looking up at her. “Dove!” she cried, lying her head down next to her, cleaning her wet fur that clung to Dovesong’s body. Smokewing cried of relief, sorrow, anger, and fear nuzzling her old friend, “I can’t believe I did that, I just can’t it hurts to realize that I lived and nobody else died,” Smokewing said through her crying to Dovesong. The two friends began sharing tongues and telling stories of hilarious things that happened in their clans until they came upon the subject of Owlpaw and Duckpaw. “So, what happened to your apprentices?” Dovesong asked. “Well… I found them in the middle of the thunderpath and two of them died, and now I want to ask you tell me what you did to them?” Smokewing answered. “Nothing,” Dovesong answered calmly, “We sent them home after they helped us back to our territory.” Smokewing shuddered, had they truly made them go home alone? Dovesong stopped her thoughts with a comment, “Hazelwing died...” she murmured with a gulp. Smokewing paused, “She died?” She questioned, then remembering how old the medicine cat was. “Yes, about a moon or two ago.” Smokewing sighed, “I’m sor-” Dovesong put a paw on Smokewing’s mouth, “I should be the one apologizing, I’m sorry, I let you down all those times we were together...” Dovesong murmured, breaking into tears. “It’s not your fault though,” Smokewing said, “It’s mine, my fault, I pushed all of you away, kept myself set aside, reserved, I let you think that you let me down, I made it feel like it was your fault, and worst of all I let myself down.” Dovesong looked down. “Maybe I should go…” Dovesong sighed, trying to stand up before falling. Smokewing winced as she fell, “Try to take it easy, will you?” Smokewing murmured, looking at her with a charming twinkle in her eye, making Dovesong blush. Dovesong looked down at her paws, “perhaps we should stay here until sunhigh,” she meowed, looking at the sun that was making a crease in the horizon. “Maybe…” Smokewing mewed, admiring the beautiful sunrise, “Yeah sure it’s pretty, but not as much as you,” Smokewing joked, feeling a quirky sense as Dovesong laughed, a smile forming on her maw as the watched the sun rise into the sky.
