I drew a realistic EA wolf. 1- Original panel I was referencing 2- My redraw (Progress) 3- Sketch 4- Color blocking and first few bits of fur texture 5- Added the colors I was planning to shade with on the sides. Didn’t end up using them really. More fur texture added. 6- More fur 7- Even more fur 8- Some brown to the face 9- Eyeball 10- Highlights to the fur to create more depth 11- Beginning to work on ears, laying down some darkness to build up from. 12- Fluff 13- Done! 14- Reference image 1 15- Reference image 2 16- Reference image for what scars on wolves look like 17- Reference image for canines with a missing eye I draw so many silly little guys, I occasionally have to make smth cool just to remind myself that I am in fact capable of stuff like this lol. Drawing my cartoony cats is a conscious choice because I tend to have more fun with that, not the limit of my art skills. Shoutout to my irl friend who inspired me to try digital painting! I used the IbisPaint X “hair” brush for the fur, the “flat watercolor (mix)” brush for the eye, nose, and scars, and the “triangle airbrush” just a bit on the snout to add that darker gradient under the nose. So to answer the question of the people who are wondering if I forgot about the wolf: Nope, it’s still here. Have more faith in me as a storyteller. Once again, just because I choose to write about chaotic friend groups and make my characters talk in modern slang, that doesn’t mean that’s all I’m capable of. Trust the process ;)
