Welcome to the second of SXC! With April coming right around the corner, it's time for camper signups <3 we hope that this session will be as fun as the last, and we get to meet more people interested in science! ⌬ What is SXC? Scratch Exploration Camp, or SXC is a triannual camp running in the months of April, August, and December! This session will mainly be a taster session, meant to see how many people are interested and how camp will go in order to make our first official session amazing! SXC is a camp where anyone interested in science is encouraged to join! It mainly isn't competitive, as the main point of it is just to help campers get more time to appreciate and learn more about Science! Campers have a minute goal of how much time they want to dedicate to science outside of school (minutes could be for watching a documentary, reading an article, etc.). Camp activities will include dailies, weeklies, and a science fair! Dailies are short research activities that should take 15 minutes to complete. Campers must show what they've learned through any sensible means (infographic, article, summary, short story, art, etc.) depending on what the daily is that day. Three times splattered around the month there will be competitive activities all in Fridays and weekends. The winning cabin will receive a prize from the hosts, but nothing to set them apart greatly from the other two. Weeklies are formed of a series of several short research tasks (min. 25 minutes per task) which should result in the creation of an infographic, summary, or article that could be entered into the Science Fair. The Science Fair is a competition where campers can enter infographics in five different categories, and the results are decided at the end of camp. You don't only have to make infographics, as long as it shows what you learn, for example, if you make an animation on scratch showing how cells multiply, it would count. On the other hand, an essay on cell multiplying and how it's so fascinating would also be something you can do! Cabins may have small in-cabin activities & rewards, for example: question of the day, fun games, a small in-cabin daily or weekly, in-cabin points, matching profile pictures, but are strongly discouraged to have storylines and other more complicated activities. ⌬ what are the cabins? The cabins for this session are Chemistry and Physics. Physics is led by Lyra () and Em () and Chemistry is led by and Skylar (). You do not have to do research only in your cabin's field. ⌬ how do I sign up? fill out this form and you should get your results of which cabin you are in before April! username // activity level (on a scale of 1-10) // preferred cabin, please pick one // minute goal (cap of 3,000) ⌬ conclusion thank you so much for getting through all that text, and though it's going to be hard making a new camp, we know it'll be worth it! If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask <3
