Snowy's paws pad across the street, joining the group of teenagers his age. It feels almost sickening to see the amount of people still laughing and giggling to themselves when people were about to be selected to die. They force themself to stay quiet, keeping their face decidedly neutral. A few names are called. A girl who strolls to the front with confidence in her eyes and a swagger in her step. A tabby cat who's stance is strong and who stares down into the ground with a defiance beyond anything Snowy could imagine mustering. A small cat, from Snowy's section, who smiles and flicks their tail in a way that makes his stomach turn. And then the final name. It doesn't really matter what their name was, though. What matters is that from the small gasps and pitying whispers around them, he knows they're young. Younger than they are, even. When he sees a trembling body, probably barely of age, step outside of the stands, the words tumble from his mouth before he can stop and think. "I volunteer as tribute." For a moment, everything is silent. Then the child scurries back into the stands, hiding their body away behind schoolmates. Snowy's pawsteps feel awkward and unnatural as he makes his way up to the podium, his metal leg dragging behind him slowly. They don't have the energy to lift it. What did he just do? His mind is blank as he stands next to the other tributes. He's going to die. But that's okay. No one will miss him,
I wrote this at school so don't mind the cruddy thumbnail >.< I tried to include the other District 5 cats, so if yours seems out of character, please tell me and I'll try to fix it!
